I would have to say go for a Subaru Liberty (3.0R yes please) or Ford Focus? But again those are in two different vehicle size classes. Depends if you have a large family or is it more for just bascially three people (just guessing by what info u gave).
Outside those suggestions i would agree with Teki on a used Honda Accord Euro, or the Golf he suggested. If u actually dont care about resale value then go for a Falcon
