Festiva electrical issue

Hi. We are a 2 Ford family. 1995 Fairlane & 1999 Festiva.
The Festiva sometimes has issues when the intermittent wipers are turned on. Sometimes they just cut out & sometimes they cut out & also cut out the fan/air con. Has anybody come across this before? Any suggestions as to cause? It appears to be electrical, along the lines of a short. any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
