Default Toyota Aims at XR5 market

Heard a few whispers around the watercooler today that Toyota will be releasing a TRD version of the Corolla. Aimed at teh Mazda3 MPS, Focus XR5 ect it will be using a Aurion 200Kw V6 driving the front wheels!

Having driven both the XR4 and XR5 i have to say i would be a bit weary of a FWD car with that much power and weight over the front wheels. Although i doubt Prodrive will release a car that isn't up to their usual quality.

my sources are pretty reliable, so we will have t wait and see if this is true

look out for TRD(Australia) versions of all Toyota Products

as much as we may like to hate toyota, they are good cars, and a TRD Corolla will give the XR5 a good battle

I have actually heard it, too. JDM Blade (Corolla in tuxedo) will arrive in OZ late this year with 3.5L 202Kw V6 with AWD, n guess what... with a manual too!

Actually the Current Sportivo is good competition as it is, i know at least 4 people that chose a corolla sportivo over a XR5 due to comfort alone (trouble fitting in the recaro's)

The seats might be the only possible competition for bigger people. For every one else, in terms of handling, acceleration, looks and street cred, the Sportivo would make even the most depressed person laugh. The enginge note is about the only thing good in the Sportivo.. and that's the Yamaha bit (it uses a 1.8 litre Yamaha engine).

I'd sooner walk than be caught dead, alive or semi-conscious in a Sportivo of any sort.

In the end, it's still a Corolla. I was watching a bit of Pimp my ride last night they worked on a 2 year old Corolla. After they finished, it still looked crap like a Corolla.

It would be nice if Ford aimed the XR5 at the XR5 market by making them more available to all

Recaro's are great if you fit into the "average" size that ford has in mind - if your a bit bigger or smaller they can be a bit uncomfortable

I suppose if there was "More to love" of you then they could be uncomfortable, say like a WRX STi (Which i also love the seats)

As far as I'm aware the previous Corolla Sportivo was a flop, I don't see what another one with more power is going to do. At least we know the XR5 handles superbly, Corollas on the other hand...

what killed the corolla sportivo was EuroIV compliance, the new corolla is not a bad car and better balanced then the old model. I'm looking forward to what they are going to produce.

It wasn't a flop at all they sold every one imported without to much trouble. I owned one for 18 months and it was an awesome little car. Good fuel consumption and an amazing little engine 141kw at 8200rpm and from 6000-8200 was a ball. Yes you had to drive them hard to get the best from them but it was fun and a simple exhaust mod fixed the mid range power as well.

I had 35mm lowered kings on mine with Goodyear eagle F1's and it went around corners like it was on rails. It wasnt the fastest car around but with that engine and the 6 speed manual it was a ball to drive.

I sold it to a guy who owned a WRX he was sick of the insurance cost of the WRX. Last time I spoke with him he was loving the Corolla.

Why did I sell it? Because I brought an XR6 Turbo... :evil3:

considering that the TRD Aurion was meant to be a ball tearer and has ended up being a tarted up grandpa car due to price and the suits at toyota nitpicking I would expect the corolla to be the same concept will be scary in reality it will be a corolla with rice

Sounds more like a competitor for a VW Golf R32 if it is a V6 AWD

It will most likely be Japan only. Called the Blade, different from the poor relation we call Corolla. Basically the version sold here will have all the good stuff removed.
