Hello All,
I have an almost rust free MK1Capri which I was going to go the V8 route with. I have decided that I think I want to get rid of it instead. At the moment it is fitted with a narrowed Falcon LS diff, V6 struts with Falcon front brakes & a V6 cross member that has been modified to suit a V8. I also have a 302W and auto with the correct sump for the Capri. The brakes are not yet plumbed up Now would I be better off to: A: fit the sump and drop the engine in plumb the brakes and sell it as an unfinished project B: sell it as a roller with the Falcon brakes C: sell it all off separately D: fit stock V6 diff, front brakes and cross member and sell it off as a roller (this would be hard as I gave all of my four stud wheels away years ago). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim... |

I think your best bet would be to sell it close to stock as possiple because from what i have seen, most buyers will steer clear of a car that has been modified extensively. So maybe sell it with the falcon brakes and sell the other parts seperately.
thats my 2cents anyway.good luck with it

If its a genuine V6, sell off the V8 parts individually and sell it as a shell. Put as many original bits on it as possible, so the buyer has less to looking for. Stick it on ebay for a reasonable price and you'll have no trouble selling it.
If its a 4 cylinder car, keep all the V8 bit with it. The V8 brigade wont care too much if its disessembled as they will probably want to strip it down anyway. As long as its rolling and can be transported, you'll have no trouble selling it. You can always stick in mk 1 escort front struts to get it rolling as they are worth nothing and easily sourced. ebay is still the quickest way to off load a car, but if you want to get the maximum amount you need to get the car as close to completed as possible. There are a lot of people who want these cars now, but down have the time to work on them, so having a complete car opens the market up a bit. |

Bolt the engine in, and make sure the handbrake works. Let me know what you want for it, I may well be interested. Throw me a PM and tell me more.

OK I have found a car that I want so I could easily be convinced to part with my Capri as long as this other car is still for sale. Drop me a pm/email or phone me on 0403 765 765 if you are interested.

I have had some sense talked into me by the wife so I'll be keeping my Capri, finishing the V8 conversion and in the not so distant future looking for a donor EB/NC/DC-AU V8 car so I can have an EFI V8 Capri.

I have not spoken to an engineer yet but as the car has Falcon brakes front and rear and comes in well under the capacity limit noted on the RTA's code of practice for light vehicle modification I should be OK.
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registrati...s_nov_2007.pdf According to the formula on page 3 based on a tare mass of 1100Kg (V6 Capri) I am allowed a maximum of 323.4 cubic inches which is a fair bit more than 302 cubic inches. There is also the option of registering it at least for the first year in the ACT. |

14 years ago I went to the tech standards office at Dickson and asked about building a V8 Capri. The answer "build it and we'll see if it's registerable" nice!

There is a couple getting around; in particular, a nice red one with convo pros. So it has been done in the past, just a matter of how much red tape you are prepared to go through and how much $$ you can spend. I'd suggest talking to an engineer, maybe one in Queanbeyan who is certified in both ACT and NSW, then go from there. I think Marloc engineering can do both (need to check though, as I was using him in the 90's.)
