Im about to embark on the above oil changes for the AU. First off I notice that my car has pink (probably dex 3) fluid in it. The stuff i got off ford is Mobilfluid 424 which is brown about the same colour as VB . The owners manual seems quite specific about what oil to use so Im guessing this could be the reason my pump whines loudly!!!
2nd any advice of getting the diff oil in? Im guessing the filler bolt is on the side due to the IRS getting in the way.. so Im thinking a hand pump? any tips appreciated!!

The Ellery's manual says Ford R1-424, Gregory's says Mobil 424 or equivalent, and Haynes says Dexron II ATF.
WTF????? All I can say is that my Haynes manual has a lot of errors in it and stuff that relates to E-series cars and hasn't been updated properly for the AU. Unfortunately I topped up my PS fluid when the Haynes manual was the only one I had access to. I haven't had any problems however.

The oil you buy for a diff comes in 1L bottles. They have a pull out nozzel built into the bottle. Undo the diff bolt and squeeze, poor whichever way works to get the oil in. Fill it up till the oil starts to dribble out of the bolt hole and done. (the hand pump works aswell ive used this method before)
AS for powersteering, dextron ll or lll works, same as auto gearbox fluid. Mobile 424 ive never used so I couldnt say, I use Penrite oil for that and everything else. |

has the pic of the AU on the front anyways my pump has a slight whine to it tho it did have a leak and got QUITE low. which may explain how it got the whine in the 1st place..

there is a Specific AUFalcon Powersteering Fluid available from all Auto Shops , Made by Castrol in a Red Bottle with a Pic of a RED XR8 on it .. Just top it up to the Required Level ..
I Think the diff oil is a Hypoid 80/90w , Or Mobilfluid in Other Words .. Drain All old fluid and turn the wheels of the car while its off the ground .. then Replace with New Fluid until it comes out of the Hole .. Replace with a New Fibre Washer aswell.. Cheers Daniel

I take it since you have IRS that you also have an LSD. If so use the heavier weight diff oil, 85w/140 I think it is, along with Penrite LSD additive as this will stop the clunking that these diffs get. To top it up the easiest way I found was to buy a $20 hand pump and just get it in that way, so much less mess.

If you have the space above the diff to hold the oil bottle vertical, I found that a short length of garden hose fits snuggly over the pull out nozzle of the oil bottle. May save money on not buying a hand pump if you haven't already got one.
I have the AU1 live axle with no LSD, which has a bit of room to get the bottle vertical, not sure if you have the room on IRS models. I used the Castrol SAE 80/90. |

hey guys sorry to bring up an old thread, but i went to ford to see if they stocked the sae90ep diff oil but they told me they don't sell it and told me to go to repco and repco they didn't have anything exactly the same so i bought some castrol lsx90, will this be ok for a live axle diff with lsd?
thanks again. |
