Default dot com name availability check on the net?

Guys I am thinking of registering a dot com business name.Is there anywhere I can check the availability for domain names on the net?

Thinking of a .com hey Stav... .com's are cheaper than .com.au and well.
I think mine is about $14 a year, the .au ones are over $60 p/a by memory.

And as Phill said, you can check them anywhere.
