Hey guys
Its one of those things that you dread and then it finally happens to you. Yesterday between 9am and 6am someone broke into our house and had a field day. They stole 3 digital cameras, a digital video camcorder, 2 laptops, an xbox 360 + games and even ripped the projector from its roof mount!! Its clear the little f@#kers were on foot as they only took what they could carry. It appears they stole my 2 backpacks as well, possibly to take the stuff with them and some clothes, either to put on top of the stuff in the backpacks or to just steal it. My room was absolutely trashed, the others not really, as I guess I'm closest to their age so they thought I may have things of value to them. Who knows, all I know is I hope karma gets them good! The thing that irks me the most is not the items stolen, as they are replaceable (except photos and things on the laptops) and we are insured, but the fact that I had some worthless scum going through our house! Please, I urge you to LOCK YOUR DOORS and windows, and make sure they are d***head proof. We can't let the scum of our society get away with this. If you see any of the said items for sale, please call the police. Robbery took place in logan near brisbane. Now to do the clean up and see what else is gone! Cheers martO :jab:

Scum. If you find out who they are bud, drop me a message, i'd be glad to assist you in teaching them a lesson. Its really hard to steel stuff with broken bones.

I've been done 3 times over the years. Deadlocks don't stop them ... they just smash a window. You're right about the back-packs, they use them to carry the goods as they don't look suspicious.
In all 3 cases the attending police said that dogs are the best deterrent. |

Get Better security, dog. security system, good quality, monitoring, bigger fences, if you wanna keep stuff make it hard for the morons so they go somewhere easier.
Put up a sign "This house is protected by a SHOTGUN 4 days of the week, Guess which 4 days !" Think about how much it cost you and how much security would cost you.

Also the police like easy targets like that instead of real criminals. It's also illegal to say you own guns for self defence you have to say hunting or sport. What suburb was it OP? |

BigBastard: Thats an interesting idea, but it won't really do much during the day. Which is when they struck. I already feel like a prisoner in my own home, going to extra lengths to make sure things are locked. Which takes more time to unlock and half the time you don't bother going out the back door as you have to undo all the locks etc. It's a damn horrible feeling.

i glad this hasnt happened to me yet, but yeah i can only quess what your feeling it not so much off that stuff got stolen as most is replaceable but that some stanger was in your house.
i think the best three deturance is a alarm system, ours isnt even hooked up but hopefully they see that and go away, we have secuirty roller shutters on the front windows and main bedroom and third we have a dog they will growl at anything coming up the drive way as she can see the road though the driveway gates. when i was getting the insurance on the house they ask what we had and i said a dog, the person i was talking to said that is one of the best deturances but unfortualty doesnt bring you premuin down

Have to agree with getting a big dog I live in an area where this kind of thing happens ALOT a fair few houses have been broken into in my street, the only ones that haven't are those of us with big fences right around the property (so the dog can "patrol" front and back) and of course a big dog.

I feel for ya mate. I got broken into when I was asleep. They cleaned out my lounge of all my electronics gadgets (iPod, PSP, dvds, Digicam.. etc.) These scum need a lesson taught to them. I pray it doesn't happen to anyone but now if it happens to me again, I hope the scumbags have a metal plate in their skull cause my Maglite will find their head.
A guy at work bought a stolen laptop off his "mate" and I damn near called the cops on him. Its idiots like this that provides a market for stolen goods. I said to him that I pray karma gets him and he gets rolled for knowingly buying stolen goods.

"but it doesnt hurt to be a little creative with your insurance claims if you know what I mean"
Comments like this are why we all pay higher premiums. If you overstate one item and are found to be lying you could risk your whole claim. You have done nothing wrong why risk it.... |

they make exceptions and examples of such people. When a law abiding average joe delivers well deserved payback the lawyers come after them because it is more suitable for them if career criminals run the street continually reoffending rather than some average joe who only is willing to commit one crime. |

Thats a violated feeling, sorry mate.
One thing - its worth noting serial numbers on your expensive stuff so it can be traced via reports when stuff is recovered. (ie cops find a garage full of laptops) Often recovered stuff cant be identified even when the cops catch people with it at a later date as there is no idea where it came from. |

we have a pomeranian x between somethin(lol) and he barks when someone pulls up at the driveway, or walks to the door(that he doesn't know) and he can't even see 'em. also good to have him as 99% of the time we don't even hear a thing!

Thanks for the comments guys. Had the finger print guy here just before, so now we can start cleaning it up. So far it looks like they haven't taken any clothes as I first thought and only 1 backpack. We've been finding receipts for a few items that are gone so that will hopefully make the insurance job easier.
Doesn't appear to be much of a lead so far. Damn those little bastards.. Also clearly we will be updating our security, the cops say its not often they strike twice but we aren't risking it! xquizd: Yes the whole if they break in and get hurt your the one to blame thing is damn ridiculous. I want to set traps just to seriously hurt these bastards but theres no point. The justice system protects the criminals. My anger levels are slowly coming down but I am still quite frustrated. Cheers martO

1) They don't break in again because they believe the householder has upgraded their security system since the break-in 2) They break in again, because they assume that the Plasma TV, DVD player, laptop, PS3, etc, have all been replaced with *brand new* items. |
