hi guys, im weighing up either selling my car within the next year and buying an xr6t ute or putting an xr6t engine in my au3 because i love my AU and i want to be different

so how much work is in putting a BA turbo engine in an AU? ive read the post from FTG when they put a ba engine in but im not sure about the turbo engine.

anything can be done... its all on how much $$$ you want to spend.

that being said, it would be cheaper to turbo your AU.

and probbaly cheaper again to trade it on an XR6T ute.

It's been done before, not into an AU but atleast an XF and EA that I know of. Your best bet would be to buy a wrecked XR6T at auction cause I think you'd have to swap over pretty much everything except the pannels.

thanks guys, i saw a wrecked xr6t on ebay for 4 g. which was pretty much seats, engine, with all looms and auto box. the body was gone, no roof. i was thinking turbo the au but a mate said i would have to much drama with the car already having 170k on it. the 3g snort kit looks good

i test drove an xr6t ute manual on the weekend, made me want one more but the gf said i could get a tornado when we get a house, but thats 2 years +.

You would be far better off in terms of overall cost if you got a snort kit or similar and bolted it to your existing AU engine. Doesnt need half as much work, you wont have issues with engine numbers etc, doesnt require any modification to the body or engine bay - just bolt it on and tune it up, end result is still the same = boosted AU.

id definatly go a turbo on your current motor

or buy an ex taxi motor and get it built to handle the big power

it also depends how much you can do your self
as to how much its going to cost

there is a silver AU ute getting around with about 450hp or somthing crazy
frys the tyres at 100kmh
also another blue au out at dalby thats pushing 450 also

Talking to joe at cresent motors he has done one au turbo with a stinger and said you can use a flash but you are limted to about .8 to 1 bar because you cant change the map sensor like you can in the ba.

Thanks Jake

dont tune it until it is all bolted up, otherwise you're wasting money as you will need to retune it when its done.

Labour shouldnt be a Prob ,, The kit takes *$*$all to install .. Depends on your Preference of Mechanic , BluePower or Autotech or AVO Turbosystems could do it in less than 1/2 Week ..

300 easy i believe

the TT kit may have EVERYTHING now.. but when it all starts needing a rebuild or upgrade things start getting expensive..
plus the extra flow required for twin turbos you need to screw around with your exhaust more and oil feed and return etc

i emailed snort a few weeks back and they said they are developing a new water to air manifold or somthing thats going to be even better!
so will be interesting to see what they come up with next!

snort seems to have plenty of time for people who email him questions etc and they can put together a package just right for you

Yeh have been talking to joe at cresent motors about the new intake manifold sounds like a winner and it can support up to 1000hp apprently.

P.S The main problem with twin turbo is more intake and exhaust piping so your engine bay become very cluttered. A good single turbo like the GT35/40 or the T04Z will make plenty of power with out much lag at all.

Basics would also say you can build a Complet system of Second hand parts on a small level for $1000 , thats Turbo , Cooler , Manifold , Piping and Wiring ..

Then tune it with a Flash Tuner or get another Tune setup on the old one and Bingo ..
