Default Gearbox - AU Futura

Hi guys, I have an AU Futura wagon..

about 2-3 months ago, it started making a grinding noise, could have been a slipping type noise aswell.. i originally thought the fan belt needed tensioning.

It stopped and started occasionally, but only when the car was cold, i asked a few people and they had no idea, planned to take it in to get it checked out.. and today driving home, it started grinding really bad.

Now my gearbox wont change out of first gear, was wondering if anyone knew anything about this.. etc.. recommendations?

Thanks.

see how important a gearbox service is? At least they may have been able to tell u ehat to expect, as is sounds like a reco and around $2000 falling out of your pocket.

It's something im not looking forward to.

Doesnt sound good,g/box will be gone, dont shell out for a reco ($2g+) g/box ,go to a wrecker for a low K second handy, service it and it will last at least another 100k.

Took it to a shop today to see what was wrong.. gearbox is gone .. need a new one.. and it needs a new radiator aswell, there was metal chunks and a fine metal paste in the pan when he pulled it off.. so in total its gonna cost 1800 bucks installed..

good? he said he could have it back to me by the end of the day

I'd say im pretty lucky it has been that far.. i read some topics on here last night about a service.. changing the fluid etc.. so i rang up the previous owner (my brother) and asked how long since its last service.

His response: Never had it serviced (the gearbox).

This car has done 258,000 kms.

Definately going to be getting things done right until i move into the BA Futura

Mate
In all honesty do your self a favor and keep the AU,you'll have more g/box prob with the BA then you have with AU,Do abit of research if you have to get a BA.
