my starter motor is the bosch pre engaged.... ive ordered it and it shoudl arrive soon, now
the big contact on the solenoid obviously goes to the big red wire. there are 2 other wires, one is to engage the solenoid, the other does nothing i can see. i was told to run one of those to the negative side of the coil, and what about the solenoid engagment wire, can that just be connected to the big red lead? (using a jumper cable and a battery, i tested them, touch wire on the right to POSITIVE and main contact to POSITIVE while a ground is connected, the starter motor engages and spins up, when i connect to the other wire (as far as i can remember) did nothing...) and help or opinions?? |

i origonally had the 1600 engine with the inertia starter, so theres only one wire, the red one, what about the other 2 wires on the solenoid of the 2 litre starter?

Those other two terminals one is for boosting the coil with 12v on start up and the other is for auto trans solanoid... You wont have to hook up that wire to coil if you have electronic ignition though. I just got magna dizzy and swaped the guts over cost me $15. Both escort dizzys and magna dizzys are both made by bosch so their identical inside..

on ya solenoid you will have linked big red wire (battery positive) to smaller terminal. this should only leave one terminal not used, as greenmk2 said it is a 12v output when cranking the car this will go to the positive of your coil(hooking to coil negative will burn out your points). as said earlier if your running electronic ign you wont require this wire. the piont for this output is to provide 12v to the coil only when cranking this gives more spark hence easier starting, commonly called the easy start terminal.
