Autoblog drove the new Lincoln MKS which features the 3.7 Duratec V6 with 6spdAuto and is based on the Taurus Fwd but in this instance is Awd. Just a drive impression not a full evaluation but interesting I think. Similar size vehicle to the Falcon and drivetrain (exc. platform RWD) as what is to come. There is already a big order bank for this model - shows how well Falcon would have worked in the US if LHD program had continued.

I know this mayjust be me but in between the A and C pillars looks 100% Falcon.
Maybe signs that Ford Aus is getting more recognised |

Lincoln might be a shining light inside the Ford stable. If they keep up with the In Your Face designs, I think they have a good future in front of them. Especially in the export market.

EB S-pac - the same family of engines, yes. The same engine, no. Falcon is expected to get Direct Injection, among other things, which will help fuel economy and power. The CX-9's engine is made in Japan, also.

Thats 203kw and 266nm's, not too bad. i wonder if the extra power will make up for the loss of torque over the I6 though.

As for Holden, they can forget it. Their 'its coming soon....' DI HFV6 from cadilac would have a hard time taking the old I6 down....hasn't a hope against the new Duratec. Ford should keep its large torque advantage easilly. |

If the size of the yank car is close to the Falcon, why are we spending so many hundreds of millions of dollars to develop our own large car for such a captive market??
Makes no sense at all! Either Aus Ford make the Falcon to be sent over to the states as a mainstream model or US Ford send over their mainstream large car as a replacement for Falcon. I think the US large cars and the Aus large cars are getting close to being on parr in terms of tastes in design... Imagine, if we imported a new large car, based on the R/D done already for the Americans we could spend a fraction of the development costs for a new car, and hopefully pass on a greater profit to Ford as a whole?? Not again... smoke from the ears.. brain is thinking tooo much! |
