Has anyone noticed that the RTA has changed all the overtaking lanes to a double white line between the two lanes heading in one direction and the single lane in the other? This seems to be a blanket application on all overtaking lanes in NSW. I regularly travel on the Barton Highway between Yass and Canberra and the clever buggers have reduced the safe overtaking opportunities by at least 50%. I'm predicting a rise in the number of head ons as a result of frustrated drivers but I guess time will tell.
Anyone else noticed this happening? Regards, Tote

Been like that for yonks in NSW. Too many people pulling out from behind a slow car from the slow lane only to find an overtaking car comming straight at them. Or both cars pulling out at the same time having had a quick squiz to see nothing comming and then all of a sudden HOLY SHOZBOT. Maybe theyve been a bit slow at it down your way but up north been like for quite some time.

This would likely be an AUSROADS standards thing that NSW is required to now comply.
Will seek info.

The picture above is how the Barton Highway used to look, its now Double white lines on every overtaking lane. Maybe its to make us appreciate the duplication when they finish it in 2014.....

Will see if this is the case on my way out to Mudgee tomorrow.
Has been a while since I actually got out on country roads the other side of the mountains ... I am itching to get out there and enjoy some of the roads again.
