How does twin turbo's work on an I6? I can understand a V6 with one for each bank of cylinders, but for an I6?

Instead of one exhaust manifold from all 6 exhaust ports with one turbo bolted to it, they have two separate manifolds from 3 exhaust ports with one turbo for each.

If you need visulisation check out a R32 - R34 Skyline GTR or a TT Supra - both run inline 6's.

Easy, get a manifold with two flanges for two smaller turbos. Less lag, but then again less ultimate boost rush. Double the piping though, would make for some fun plumbing...

The big 4.0 can stuff enough exhaust gas through a large single turbo anyway.

If I were you, I'd just go one larger turbo, unless you have ALOT of cash lying about. If you do, then by all means, go with the twin setup.

keep one and sell the other? .. would be interesting to see i twin set up on an I6, but depends how deep ur pockets are, and is it worth spending it on you're car, or updating? (not saying your e-series isn't worth it, but like maybe save the cash, n update to a fairmont or fairlane and then turbo that?)

Maybe approach a business like Snort & ask about their TT manifolds? One of their high-end kits is TT, maybe you could get a price for the manifold on its own.

Single turbo setup would be far easier and would also be a fair bit cheaper to do. Maybe sell the two MonstAs (ebay, some silvia forum or whatever) and look towards a single turbo setup.

Twin turbo -
* two oil feed lines (double-teed off the sender?)
* two oil drain lines (teed into single sump drain pickup?)
* special twin turbo manifold (not as common as single, most likely pricier)
* two turbos
* two wastegates
* two dump pipes
* two lots of heat shielding
* two sets of intake piping into the turbos (or funky Y piping)
* two sets of intake piping from turbos to intercooler (or t/b if not intercooling)
* either a 2-in-1-out intercooler or more funky Y-piping required
* intercooler to t/b would be the same as single setup
* BOV or dose, no difference between single or twin setup... although a double dose would sound interesting :P

Single turbo
* one oil feed line (teed off the sender)
* one oil drain line (into single sump drain pickup)
* single turbo manifold (greater range, generally cheaper, more common)
* one larger turbo
* one wastegate
* one dump pipe
* one lot of heat shielding
* one set of intake piping into the turbo
* one set of intake piping from turbo to intercooler (or t/b if not intercooling)
* 1-in-1-out intercooler to suit

That's the bolt-ons, stuff like injectors, FPR, pump, ECU, etc would probably be the same for both setups.

I went for a single TO4E on my EF. Less pipework, less hassles.
