I reckon it is the NA six. If you notice the Commodore beside has no 6 litre badge on the front guard. If I remember correctly, WA police, even the Hwy Patrol have not been getting V8's or Turbos for a few years now.

On a side note you can order 17's for your XR6T. It's a NCO on the Ford website.

Because it's a few years old. The WAPD are so poor, they are re-using gear off old cars.
Even pulling the siren gear out of totaled cars.

No V8's in WA Police Department. (well, not that you'll know about anyway )

90% of the HWP cars are Turbos now. They were using SV6's until the ban on the Falcon was lifted.

We have a VE SS in town as a cop car and it doesn't have the 6 litre badges either or SS badges on the side...only the SS badge on the bootlid.

Most police XR6 T's and XR8's are ordered with 17 inch alloys, cheaper to replace tyres!

The main reason is they're safer, more reliable and durable for pursuits that may occur on rough roads too.....

Pretty Schmick, definetly looks the part.

Yeah as others have said the 17s are more suitable for the rough work these things need to be able to put up with, gutter jumping, s*itty surfaces at high speeds, etc and are cheaper for the taxpayer to replace

The lights look so out of date - almost something you expect atop the XD from a Country practice...

When i drove across the "Bor a Turbo passed me with lights ablaze at a decent speed - no idea who he was after given I hadn';t seen a car for 5 or so mintes - perhaps just enjoying the tail wind the turbo!

someone wrote off an AU series 1 XR8 (185kw) and thus they decided V8's were too powerful and dangerous... so they went to 6 only....

and now a base model has more poke, go figure.

That was the start of the issue.

A young cop wrote of a GenIII, killing his passenger/partner.
The car left the road on a bend after passing another car on a double white line.
It took out several trees and left marks on one big sucker, ten feet up. I saw the wreck, the driver was lucky to get out too. The rear right tyre had pushed through the floor and was hard pressed against the drivers seat.

As a result of three major crashes involving 'High Powered' Police vehicles in less than 3 months (from memory), the WA Gov thought it would be better to limit all Police cars to I6's or V6's.

Things are changing now, with the SV6 & XR6T models starting to take off. They are playing with Subi WRX's at the moment as well as 'trails' for the XR8 & SS versions.

All the current xr6 highway patrol cars here in W.A. are turbos - so i gather these ones would be too.
