there was an article in Sundays herald sun here in vic and it gave a few scenarios on it

if we are all here tomorrow all is good if we are not well at least we all went out fighting

it wouldn't be funny if the other scenario was to happen earth quakes ect till we had nothing left

They are just starting the first major test tomorrow , they ain't coliding the particles yet !. I have been following this for over 2 years and imo i think the quantum physics books are due for re-writing !. Imo i don't think it's the end for us , but some amazing new info and technology to come.
As it is, over 80% of our plannet and the universe is made up of 'black matter' / the other 20% roughly is particles which form a mass - like yourself/plannets/everyhting that is a solid. What's actuly in the 'black matter' is yet to be seen , alot of scientist actualy think that is alternate time lines / like possible time-travel !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Some amazing stuff to come.

I gotta say , the thing that makes me laught is :
They say that the HLC could get 100,000 time hotter that the sun when colliding the particles !, yet we don't have any materials here on earth that can handle the heat of the sun x1, and they recon this thing could get '100,000' times hotter ! - it's likely to go into meltdown before anything devistating happens imo.

Glad I'm not the only one who was thinking the very same thing....

If this "whatever" that is made does get that hot, it would just burn straight trough the earth I would imagine...

Bah, the surface of the sun ain't THAT hot

It's about as hot as those kiln things you used to put clay into in high school

Now the core of the Sun... that's another story

If anybody is interested, they are holding a free lecture at USYD to coincide with the firing up of the LHC

Build your own Big Bang

At 5.30 pm AEST next Wednesday 10th September, scientists will hit the big green button on the world's largest experiment, the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. The huge energies given to tiny particles in this experiment will take us closer to the Big Bang than we have ever been before and propel us towards answering questions of Life, The Universe and Everything.

One of the thousands of scientists holding his breath is Dr Kevin Varvell from the School of Physics University of Sydney. "At last we can test some of our ideas about what we are made of!" he says. Some ideas are very solid, some such as mini-black holes less so.

At a public talk next Wednesday evening Dr Kevin and Dr Karl Kruszelnicki will be giving the low down on the Large Hadron Collider, colder than deep space, and buried 100 m in the ground in a tunnel 27 km long under the French-Swiss border - as well as streaming live video from CERN.

Date: Wednesday 10th September at 7pm
Venue: Slade Lecture Theatre, School of Physics (now at Footbridge Theatre)
Title: Build your own Big Bang: CERN’s Large Hadron Collider turns on
Presenters: Dr Karl Kruszelnicki and Dr Kevin Varvell
RSVP: 9351 3472 or outreach@physics.usyd.edu.au

Will they be able to find that elusive Higgs boson? The key to fundamental particle physics!

I just used the LHC to travel back in time and quote your message before you posted it..

Convinced now?

If they open up a black hole, they might find the missing people from the Philadelphia Experiment
