Default Basic AU Mods?

Hi all. I just purchase a stock '98 and was wondering what there are in the way of basic mods that can be done to the AU Series 1 that are relatively cheap and effective.

It doesn't matter what the mod is or does as I am interested in learning as much as I can about the car. I'm looking to do each mod for no more than $200.

I'm looking for info such as what the mod is, what it does, how difficult it is to achieve, the cost involved and how long it would take to achieve.

Just trying to get ideas about this model as I've heard a few bad things, but I see the potential that this car can have with the right amount of money and effort placed into the car.

Cheers.

What are you looking at starting on doing? The exterior or Interior first? Start off with some series 2/3 clear side repeaters they make the car look alot more sleeker! All you do is slide back the ones that are on and they just pop out and unscrew the bulb and replace with an amber globe and click it back into the new one and it just slides back in..easy as.

I knew there was something ugly about your car!!!
Thought it was the mug on the driver.... but it's those ugly a$$ side lights.

I should also add that I changed mine to clear. An AU came into work with clear ones so I swapped em.
A free mod is always a good mod. Lol

on the topic of au mod's i have a couple of questions,

i have 98 au forte wagon 6 cylinder

2'5" exhaust cat back, K & N air filter, XR snorkel, momo steering wheel, XR6 body kit

Is there any point doing extractors and a high flow cat, and what are your thoughts on electronic shift kits, not sure if i should bother with anymore mods as the car has just clicked over the 300,000 mark

I actually prefer the amber colour over the clear style on every colour AU except black and red

Amber is real nice. I am radical but also outdated in my tastes

Extractors and cat are worth it, Definitely if it still has the original cat fitted.

Ive fitted a XR6 HP ecu and fuel reg to my SR and that made a difference on top of my XR6T snorkle, cat, extractors and exhaust. Just need a cam,3.45 lsd and a K&N filter now.

and is the anything else you have to fit when thinking bout doing the cam or just slap a cam in?? Lsd can wait for now.

Thanks for the info Beer Baron

You will need to get it tuned if you fit a decent cam. Very mild cams will run ok but they aren't really worth it in my opinion unless you get them dirt cheap.

Put away $1500 for a flash tuner and the custom tune.

bit more work this way but I had this intake pipe made up at an exhaist shop they were able to buy the flange premade and a small bend got it all lined up nicely I get mine powder coated but I guess you could chrome it too

here is the secondary intake I made from a bit of PVC pipe welded to the front of the airbox

Well if it is a series 1AU I would do the front brakes. Anything is better than standard.
