Default legal noise level

Hey everyone
Does anyone know what the legal decibel level is in Qld for exhausts. I got a defect for being too loud. I wasnt going to stand there and argue the point as I didnt get a fine, just a notice to fix it
cheers
Luke

Yea well he thought the noise was a harley rippn through the side streets somewhere lol then when he said he thought it was this old busted up ricer beside me that had a problem with its exhaust that hurt the old feelings a bit comparing a xr8 to whatever that thing was
Dont think he had an idea anyways he wouldnt even believe me that he had to measure ground clearance on a flat surface not a bumpy old road so I got done for being over 10mm too low aswell when in reality its about 2mm too low. But owell least I didnt get a fine or points to go with it

I got lucky last night . Ive got dual 3.5 inch straight through pipes that side exit on my xr8 ute so it gets pretty loud when given a bit. An last night i just fitted a g & d airbox so wanted to test her out so i gave it a bit of stick kept under the speed limit though. But would you know it copper sitting there about 400m up with his window down . Well any way he pulled me over asked me if i had been drinking blah blah blah.
Then told me had a nice ute but is way to loud drive it quieter please. Then he said have a good night.
It was really nice for a change if he reads this by any chance .Thank you

Well I spoke to my detective mate here and he couldnt believe I got done for being loud. He said just get it fixed up and swap the mufflers back over lol Told him about it all and he said the guy that defected me had no idea really and he was talking to another cop in the background who basically said the same thing

Down here in Vic the limit is 90db for anything newer than 1986. Just about all aftermarket exhaust will put you over the limit. You would be surprised how quiet you car is legally suppose to be.

General rule of thumb if you can hear it drive by its too loud according to law....so pretty much anything is illegal.

A standard FPV GT only just passes when it is brand new, doubt it would pass after the exhaust has done 20 or 50.000k's

Its supposed to be measured at 75% of redline at 500mm to the rear and 500mm to the side of the pipe outlet IIRC..

Well spoke to my exhaust guy today and hes going to set up a quieter bolton system for now and the rwc said he isnt even going to test it but just tick it off if its not too noisy. He also said the level is 90db. But im really keen to find a place to get it tested just to see how loud it really is.

My test was done at 3600rpm for BA XR8. The loudest part was on the backing off of the accelerator. DB meter was held at about 45deg to exhaust tip about 50cm away.

Pacemaker headers, high flow cats, custom cat back. But I like my cars not to loud, just a nice note. (cat back has 3 mufflers)
