My car has done 137,000km. Easy driving mainly
The lifters/lash adjusters are noisy. I replace oil every 10,000km and plugs without fail since ownership. The previous owner did the same as it is recorded in the log book. I have heard different opinions on the use of engine flush additives. I have also heard some people use a lot of kero to flush their crank case to solve a sticky lifter issue without issue, (not driving the car with that) but replacing the kero with proper oil after. Im a bit skeptical. Whats best?

Start up lifter noise is normal till oil pressure builds up.

i used a flush last oil change, MolyTech Engine Detox. Then when it came to filling it up again i also added a bottle of Lucas Oil Stabilizer to my Shell Multigrade oil... works a charm and no noise up top.

Hey fellas, thanks for the replies.
Can you tell me where you get your products from? Can you get it from a mainstream business, or is it a special order?

I just bought a bottle of Liqui-Moly Engine Detox for $22.95 and the Lucas HD oil stabiliser for $16.38 from Supersheap Auto.
Will be doing the flush tonight after work. BLUEPRINT - How much of a difference was there after you did the Detox? Could you notice the ticking as much?

How come you used the whole bottle of the stabilizer? I read on the site to use 20% of the bottle per 4 litres of oil. Will using the whole bottle give greater effects?

What intervals do you change your oil with this additive in it? Do you go for a bit longer than usual?

I reckon with a whole bottle of Lucas, you could have got away with 15,000km.

Oil change was done after I added the Detox to the engine. Noticed that the tappets got a little quieter during the 10min run in.
Emptied the old oil. Added 2/3rds to 1/2 of the Lucas Oil Stabiliser and an entire 5 litre bottle of HPR GAS 20w-60 and new oil filter. Started the car up. Started as little noisey at first till oil circulated and oil pressure regained. After that, the engine seemed a little smoother but noticeably quieter without the rattle of the tappets. Gave it a little rev, and could still hear the tappets/lash adjusters a little, but no way near as bad as before. Im only guessing but I reckon the noise will enventually improve over time. Seems to help the noise level so far. Will know by tomorrow when I drive to work if the engine noise has reduced more so.

After driving the car to work, I made the following observations:
* Free-d up a little low down power * Free-d up some extra rev's and it rev's quicker now. * The engine doesnt sound like a bag of 'marbles' straight after releasing the accelerator. * Car idles quieter

Im amazed at how gum and oil sludge can sap power from an engine.
I have concluded that by removing as much residue and gunk in the engine with the occasional flush & detox, your engine should better mannered, and give out as much power as it can handle without crap holding it back. Thanks for the referral BLUEPRINT

i used the nulon lifter free/tune up 2 days ago just to see what happens, to my surprise the car has got more quiet, not fully gone but hardly noticable now, and i did notice a smoother feeling engine.

I still amazed about the amount of power that was released by doing an engine flush and oil stabilizer. The car just wants to rev, and rev hard!!! I totally recomend using the Lucas Heavy Duty Oil stabilizer with your next oil change. Its cheap and certainly worthwhile IMHO.
