Default Anyone want a cheap FPV or HSV?

There has been a lot of media on the "recession" and lots of near new luxury cars selling at auction for a song.

Well it is not just the mercs and bmws from the yuppies. There appear to be a fairly large number of FPVs and HSVs being repossessed from the pits. Most so far are utes, Maloos, SPs, SSs and XRs but my spies tell me that there will be lots of GTs and clubbies etc.

Good for those who want to buy, maybe not so good for those who may want to sell or trade in the next few month (hopefully not years).

If I get this job I'm going after I'd be fairly keen on buying an SS or XR6T to park next to my WRX and they will still be cheap as for quite a while I'd imagine

They go through the auctions, dealer license is needed and I am sure none of them will mark them up much

But keep your eyes open and have the cash available or use a "car finder". If you have a trade it will not work.

I am looking out for a M3, AMG or 911 at some super cheap pittance but I am not holding my breath......

I wouldn't, you'll turn very blue.

Last time we had such silliness around 1990 there was much talk of cheap high end stuff. Many hours of looking at absolute rubbish, including a 930 which had different serial numbers at each end led me to the conclusion that the quality stuff was still well up there, it was the bottom feeders who were bailing out and the quality on offer just wasn't there.

Let me know if it's different this time. I'll head out shopping.

My neighbour who works for Ford was saying that for some weird reason used car prices at the auction were going up. Ie the price that the dealers can get them for as compared to the last 4-6months

Yes It's true prices are going up

Why - supply and demand. I am in the trade and I know we cannot get good stock at the same prices they were 6 months ago. Possible reason with the economy is people aren't trading up and keeping their cars longer which reduces supply. I know of another dealer who has just put $2K increase on all his used car stock because he cannot get replacement stock. People still need cars and they are paying these increased prices. Our yard has just had a better than budget month.
