Wow thats awesome. That 'stuck in 3rd' XR8 ad got banned for implying speed, but the Mustangs doing a burnout haha. And that interior view is incredible, from a rendering pov. So detailed and even the material looks like the real tthing.
Why can't the FPV website be like this??? :(

Do people think that car looks appealing? I mean, It just goes to show how dry for ideas american car design must be to continue to ressurect old designs like this.

I think it looks really good myself. Think of it as the American equivelant of a 911, or as Clarkson would call it, a Beetle lol. Do you think the 911 looks dry?

See this is where I run into a wall, using the Porsche analogy is fine and yes, the Porsche 911 is one of the most elegant understated sports cars on the road today, however Porsche 911's iconic styling has evolved from the very first 356A, and never changed nor gone through an off period.

In my opinion, Ford put a sad and sorry blemish on mustang history when it brought out the 1980's square angular mustang with the XF tail lights which was lambasted. The one that was brought here by FTe Dealers in the 90's was a plasticky horrible boring looking design as well, and I see this latest gen mustang as Fords attempt to right the past wrongs. I believe that the mustangs integrity should never have been tampered with. It should have been an evolutionary design in EVERY generation, not just because in 2004, "the retro look is back in".

Maybe my motoring musings are odd, its just the way I feel as a whingey whiney purist. Does anyone understand where I am coming from??

can understand what your trying to say, but in the final analysis, many people /potential customers still have fond memories of the old mustang , and to be able buy a newey that still has some cues from the the oldy + its comfy , fast and still kicks butt for the price, you`d be a fool not to build it imo.

Yes it does and it appeals to Mustang buyers.
Ford have progressed their V8 Mustang buyers to fork out close to $30,000
where most of the fans were previously conditioned to paying around $22,000.

$30k for a V8 Mustang but only $48,600 for the GT500.

hate to think what we would get stung for it here.

It's timeless and instantly recognizable. Of course they'd resurrect it.

The "retro" look is the in thing.... apparently.

But in any case I got to see one kinda in the flesh (previous model) as one drove past me last week.
Its an impressive/ aggressive design.... certainly not "pretty".
But impressive none the less...

The mustang is hot, and the 911 analogy is very apt...I dont think they would have the balls to try and take it on an ultra modern theme...defeats the purpose of the car doing that anyway.

The day they come on sale in Oz I will be down there with a deposit...as long as FoA dont get hungry with the price tag.

Yes but I can point out some dud looking 911's aswell...the 80's should be struck off the record when it comes to the automotive world.

The Oz spec 2000 mustang is a nice looking car, granted the interior is not the best but I could get over than in a hurry, that body shape also gave birth to arguably the greatest mustang ever made, the SVT 00'R..pic below just because its my favorite Ford ever made.

Dont worry about the interior in this one, pretty sure the radio and back seat was deleted, all road legal BTW.

I agree, the first edition of the "retro" stang is shouse, but the 2011 model is very nice.

So they pay 22 grand for a Mustang, and we pay 30 odd for an XT.

That just hurts.

I don't understand though? The dollars are similar, manufacturing costs would appear to be relatively similar between the two countries. RHD? but still.

If you check out Ford US website, and GM US website, you will be able to make quite a few comparisons on prices. Rough comparisons for cars like the Escape or a Chevy cruze, show our cars about 25% more. Theres room for the australian businesses to lower prices by 10 to 15 % due to currency movements over last few months (but will probably take a while to work its way through the supply chain). So generally we should only be paying 15% to 10% more for our cars than the US. But that premium could be working its way into the car price at many stages (not necessarily being added by Ford Oz or Holden). The Mustang and Camaro are probably being used by GM and Ford, as "publicity", and are subsidizing prices to win the sales race.

Surely Ford Australia could get around the laws if they provided links to external sites like the American site does? Probably wouldn't get around the media though.

Do a search on the the numbers they sell...then it makes more sense..still hurts though. Having a RRP is one thing, backing it up with parts/service is another.

I reckon with the dollar on parity almost, It would be worth buying a car in America, Paying the import tax and converting it to RHD. You will still be in front.

When I was i the states at a Ford dealer looking around the new 5.0 i couldn't believe the cost of the things. But as some said they sell **** loads of them. I think Ford sell a new F truck every few second there.
Best part though was the boys from Michigan were in that dealer heading up the new Mustang and Focus dealer prep. I gt invited into the board room for some sow and tell and got a whole bunch of media stuff.
