Default Young bloke, plus modified v8... What insurance?

Does anyone know of an insurance company that would possibly insure a 20 year old with a BF GT supercharged?

I'd try Just Car. But mate, I'd be saying one last goodbye to my money.

none of the major companies will touch you. my dad is a tow truck driver n AAMI was bought out by suncorp what owns Just Cars. i just payed 2.3 k for my SP to be insured so say good bye to your money mate.

Just Car.

Or, join a club and see if Shannons will cover you

you don't have to be a member of a club to be insured with shannons. a mate of mine had a ba xr8 supercharged with them for a pretty reasonable rate although hes not 20. i'd try shannons.

whoever does it, it won't be cheap.

Get into a registered car club, enter into a car show where shannons will have a stand and speak to the reps there. I can almost guarentee they'll insure you. I had called them multiple times on the phone and got No's. Spoke to a rep in person, showed them my car, showed my club card etc etc and they insured me for full comp for less than AAMI would insure me for 3rd party fire/theft..

Hey mate,

JUST car will insure a BF GT that's ticked the box 'supercharged' as mechanical modifications for $2,919 fully comprehensive, assuming the youngest driver, the 20 yr old, has had his/her licence for two years (since 18) with no convictions of theft against them etc...

3rd party, fire and theft is only $494 annually.

i found with insuring my car that quotes were often subject to postcode the car is parked in overnight. for the quote above, i entered my eastern suburbs of melbourne postcode so its probably a bit kinder to the wallet.
my dad's mustang is heavily modified and he's insured it with LSV.. perhaps look into that, although i think you have to be older to sign with them.

i reckon JUST CAR is the option.
hope that helps.

How can you say that the above figure will be correct? there is too many variables with insurance.

And when they find out he is actually the primary driver, and they DO investigate this stuff (we have one of them as a member here) the insurance is voided he spends the rest of his life paying off the Rolls Royce he hit and if your wife is very lucky if she does not get charged with fraud or attempting to gain advantage by deception.

This is true, originally I had my Fiesta insured under Dad's name, after a year they told me I wasn't insured when I was driving it, so we had to change it to 50-50% and the price went up to just over $2000 with me as a driver 50% of the time (I reckon 100% would be about $3000).

I'm not 100% on the laws for P platers, but I'll assume you can't legally drive the thing, therefore would anyone insure you? Might be wrong, just seems logical to me...

I live in WA... I got off my p plates 2 years ago.

Anyway, for any other young drivers out there.

I've spoken to a couple of people from Just Cars and they more than happy to insure a S/C BF GT under my name.

Quote: "At Just Car Insurance we specialise in insurance for younger drivers with modified cars. Any legal and roadworthy modification fitted to the car and listed on your policy will be covered."

Obviously its gonna be a bit more pricey, but honestly money isnt an issue for me.

I'm in the same boat dude. I'm 23 and I've got a 79 Falcon V8 that I've put about $5,000 into aside from the purchase price (not to soup it up, just to get it going properly), and the premiums I've been quoted are not worth the coverage they are willing to give me. I'm exactly the kind of "motoring enthusiast" that Shannons bang on about in their stupid ads, but they don't want to touch it. It's bull****.

Shannons does not insure drivers under 25.... unless you can prove you are a massive enthusiast apparently.

as a 23 year old they insured me, all i had to say was i'm a member of australian ford forums! Gave me great coverage and a low premium too! much cheaper than anyone else was willing to offer. but i drive a 1971 falc, i heard the kicker with them is that they aren't fond of insuring late model cars unless they are a secondary vehicle or something, not your main car. Modifications arent a problem with them though, as long as its roadworthy.

I was with AAMI for my xr6(BA) and just before I got it I got a quote on a typhoon, 2005 model, they would insure me as an 18yr old for about 3.2k and on a monthly payment plan, if I took the premium and placed it on the excess, it became around 1,000. Ended up buying the xr6 and paying 700 odd a year.
