Australian singer Nick Cave crashes Jaguar into UK speed camera

From: NewsCore December 09, 2010 11:37AM 3 comments

NO INJURIES: Australian singer/songwriter Nick Cave and his sons escaped unhurt after he crashed his car into a metal barrier. Source: The Sunday Telegraph
AUSTRALIAN singer Nick Cave and his twin sons escaped unscathed after he crashed his luxury car into a speed camera in the UK, The Argus has reported.

Cave, 53, was driving his Jaguar along Hove seafront in Sussex Tuesday evening when he lost control of the vehicle, slammed through a metal barrier and hit the camera.

Paramedics, along with police, arrived at the scene at 7pm local time but neither Cave nor his 10-year-old sons needed hospital treatment.

No arrests were made and police were investigating the incident.

UK-based Cave is a legendary figure in Australian music - and his song, O Children, features in the latest Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.

Indie charts. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, also did a duet with Kylie Minogue. (I think).

He made great contributions through The Birthday Party and his own group, the Bad seeds. He is one of our best knowen Singers and song writers, and respected here as an artist. Even the likes Metallica and Johnny Cash have covered his work.

He also wrote the screenplay for 'The Proposition'

World wide he is held in the same group of great's as Lenoard Cohen, Jeff Buckly and Nick Drake.

Yes, but considering the state of Australian music, being recognized by ARIA as legendary isn't such an honor.

but the current state of music shouldn't be judged on what vomit jess moubouy or short stack are producing.

There are heaps of awesome aussie bands out there at the moment from all genre's, the problem is with commercial australia following US trends and what-not ya have to go and find good music yourself and not wait for lamish and blandy to present it to you via script on a douchebag radio station

I disagree, i've met him once and interviewed him by phone once, he's a great bloke. I was surprised at how grounded he was. Even went as far as letting me ring a mate that was a huge fan and had a 10 minute chat to him, not to mention signed stuff for him and myself.

You become "legendary" after 30 years. It's an automatic thing. Just because you don't know enough of is music to accept the title of genius, doesn't mean you are right, you may be old and out-of-touch (like me).

yeh he's a legend in the non-pop or real music circles, hence the reason you wont ever hear him on nova, mmm or any of those teeny bopper stations. He's been in and worked with heaps of aussie bands, most recently known for his solo work and fronting grinderman.

Yeh hes been a bit of a knob at times, a year or so he was inducted into the aria hall of fame and in his acceptance speech he basically bagged most of the more 'popular' acts hahaha was quite amusing...

I often wonder why some people think that because they listen to triple J they are "real" music fans who listen to real music. While I like the idea of them giving exposure to up and comers, most of the music they play is tripe!

But then most other stations play the same old stuff over and over....

Taste in music is a personal thing. But this whole discussion started cause someone questioned an artist that wasn't in his pop tart music circle.

Ok we've gone off the topic a bit here but triple j (tripe-l j? lol) has a much broader demographic compared to the canned crap that comes from a typical radio station, whose demographic is pretty much females 15-35 and that's it.

Triple J covers all the bases quite well I think and although not all of it is good to listen to they at least play music and not ads all bloody day.

Back to Nick Cave, he's an ARIA hall of famer, has a song in the top 30 of Best Australian songs in the last 75 years and countless music awards.

Seems pretty legendary to me??

You gotta love the Wiggles. A couple of former Cockroaches who decided to make songs for kids, netting them a multi-billion dollar worldwide industry.
From a business standpoint they are nothing but an absolute phenomenon; from a music standpoint who hasn't had one of their songs stuck in their head after spending time with their children?
Let me ask a few simple questions.
If I were to say fruit salad, would anyone say "Yummy yummy"?
If I were to say everybody sing, how many would say "La la la la la"?

Anyway, Nick Cave is actually a bit of a rock legend in Australia, simply for the fact that he does what he wants; he's not dictated to by others. Further, who can't like him for taking out a speed camera? I'm tipping that it may even get a mention on the news of Top Gear.

Imagine though, if the Big Red Car took out a speed camera in NSW? Murray, Geoff, Anthony, yellow one? Anyone?

Off topic Rant:
I think most commercial stations are too afraid to go out and play something a little left of centre unless someone like Triple J etc have paved the way and put it out there, and that's normally at least 3 months later.
I think you'd call someone a "Real" music fan if they go out and explore whats out there instead of having it served up to them. This might be by listening to Community Radio, Stations World Wide over the Internet or going to see local bands in Pubs.
Commercial Radio is by its name "Commercial" and will not do anything that will put its Number 1 priority off side, That's the Advertisers, Not the listener!
On topic bit:
Yes Nick Cave is no John Bon Jovi, Katy Perry or Nickleback, but he does have his place in music history. He has influenced a huge amount of other musical artist over the years and in the Industry is highly regarded. I can take it or leave it and only have 1 of his CDs.
Oh yeah, crashed his car, bad luck that.
