Default Red Rooster rip off....

No doubt it was a fair bundle of funny money in this roast chook deal....

http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/thief-...-1225975370099
A MAN who sold his car for cash in the car park of a fast-food shop was paid with counterfeit money.

w

The victim had advertised his Holden HSV VE Commorde sedan for sale and met the buyer at the Red Rooster Restaurant, Main North Rd, Munno Para about 8.30 pm yesterday, police said.

"He was handed a large quantity of money in exchange for the vehicle," a spokesman said.

"I wasn't until afterwards that the victim became suspicious of the money and went to the Elizabeth Police Station, where it was determined the money was counterfeit.

"Police are seeking assistance from anyone who may be able to provide information in relation to this incident or can assist in locating the stolen car or may be offered the Commodore."

The car has registration number CC608J and anyone who has information is asked to contact BankSA Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

No point trying to find it. It will be in a million parts, all on their way to a different part of the country by now.

Spot on Mr Beige, there's always a lot of Griswalds around at this time of year who didn't get the Christmas bonus they were expecting and are desperate for some quick cash.
Always been my favorite time of year to get cashed up and keep an eye out for some bargains.

I got a counterfeit $50 note from a NAB ATM.
There is apparently a heap of funny $50's in curculation. You can tell they are dodgy by scratching the stars off the window with your fingernail.

Seems like a fair deal to me, fake fifties for a Holden, would not be worth more than that.....

True. Several years ago a customer at my mate's shop paid for a $5 item with a counterfeit $50 note and quickly left, with a free $45.
The fake $50s tear easily and the stars on the window are raised (you can easily feel it with your thumb).

If anyone wanted to pay me what the car was probably worth (surely at least 20g even if it is a Holden, it does state HSV) in cash, I would be suss.

Bank cheque please.

If anyone wanted to personally deal with me with that much cash I would be suss, and if they really insisted, would have the transaction done at a bank.

Yeah cos bank cheques have never been forged

I'll take your sister while I wait for the funds to clear, that line doesn't always work, but I've tried it before.... You gotta worry when they say yep no probs, cos in that case you wouldn't want her...

Small deals cash, bigger bank cheque and wait till funds are cleared, bank cheques are not as good as cash and don't instantly clear like some fools assume...

More people are caught out by fake bank cheques than counterfeit notes.

I'm guessing one of the safest ways would be to meet the buyer at their bank, and ask for a bank cheque to be written in front of you. Then once you've got the bank cheque, you go to your local bank and cash the bank cheque in???

Cash is the safest method if you know what it actually looks like

Other than that, Bank transfer before collection of the car with transfer papers already written.

Was at a Subaru Dealer in Sydney earlier this year and was talking to the Salesman about buying a car from interstate. I said it seemed to be a straight forward process. Do the deal, make a deposit and bring a bank cheque for the balance. He said they won't accept a bank cheque at time of delivery. He told me that a few months earlier, a Merc dealer in Sydney sold a Mercedes for around 120k to a couple of guys who paid with a bank cheque. They had been in a day earlier and expressed an interest in the car and came back at 4.45 on the Friday arvo to buy the car. Insistant that they wanted the car there and then, produced the bank cheque for the full amount. Deal was done and they droive away. He said they were a couple of well dressed Asian businessmen,so it seemed like a standard sale. As the banks were shut by then, the dealer could bank the cheque till Monday, found it to be a fake. Insurance wouldn't pay because they released the car before the cheque cleared.

The subie dealer said they only accept cash or internet transfer. They will accept the bank cheque, but you can't take delivery of the car until that cheque clears.

Thankyou for this thread. It has achieved 2 things.

1. Confirmed there are waaay to many idiots out there. I mean who goes to a car park to accept cash for a VE HSV

2. I am now going to go to Red Rooster and get some cold chicken rolls so I can heat them up at midnight when I am still watching movies and get peckish.

Real bacon burger meal sounds pretty good right now

As for counter-fit money, if it looked good enough at the time to buy the car I would be pwning it off to buy other things, not that I support fake bills but you would feel pretty damn stupid having sold your VE HSV for fake cash
