Hi again...
it seems that i always have very specific questions and thats why I can't find bang on answers for my issues in the search section....although I use it a lot to inform myself a bit more... Anyways....can anybody tell me if there are better than OEM seals for an AU Falcon 4 speed auto ? I don't have the space to do the tranny oil change myself and I gave it to a service. After 2 months the tranny drips oil again. Its not dramatically but after a while I had a spot the size of a beer coaster under the car on the concrete. So are there any tranny seals that arebetter than the cheap OEM stuff that service shops use to save money ? Next time I'll bring my own seal that they can put on. Any suggestions ? cheers The Moose |

I haven't had a problem with protorque seals. Super cheap sell them.

Hi there...
thanks mate... i just thought that the apes of the tranni service (i didn't like them much) didn't stick to the torque specs and tightening sequence as they usually don't give a rats **** about details like that. But Ford engineers didn't come up with things like that for no reason... I guess I have to check it when the car cooled down using my electronic torque adapter. Well....I'll ask for the brand next time....do you by any chance know the difference between the seal and an OEM part? cheers The Moose |

Is it definitely coming from the pan gasket????
It may be coming from higher up and running down around the entire/part of the pan gasket itself??? Is it on the passenger side moreso??? There's a round seal/gasket on the side of the auto (overdrive gasket I think it is) that is prome to failing after some time.

Could be the rear seal?? Quite common for the bush to wear and cause the seal to leak.. The pan gaskets are all much the same and rarely give much trouble
|

More than likely the rear seal as suggested by gregaust

if it is the rear seal check the surface where the tailshaft yolk goes in . if there is even slight damage there it will flog out the new seal.
also look at the speedo sender unit , there is an O ring that sometimes leaks

Hi folks....
well the oil pan is tight and not leaking and it seems to be leaking from the seal where the driveshaft is connected to the rear end of the transmission... How much does that cost if done in a tranny shop ? Roughly.... Thanks for any info The Moose |

Extension housing seal is the one your referring too.
Get under your car and see if the tail shaft moves up and down in the back of the gearbox. A tiny bit of movement is OK but if its a lot you might as well get the extension housing bush replaced while they are at it.
