Hey guys, I came across this today while i was at work. From what i could hear from the owner is ( was talking through 2 fences and a 10 meter gap) its a super roo ute, 1 of 5 every made, been restored to original. Not my taste but still a nice car. If anyone has any info on what it actually is would be great, i couldn't really hear the bloke. I only got 1 photo on my phone. So here it is.....

I've read of true nut and bolt restorers who will go to any ends to ensure that a rare car...especially something that may indeed be a one-off...is exactly as it left the factory, warts and all, even to the extent of leaving some orange peel in the paint because that's how it was when new. Nothing worse than someone who thinks they know better than the factory...modification of an ordinary or common car is one thing and quite OK, but leave the truly rare cars alone so other enthusiasts can look at them in decades to come and say "Oh, so that's how they did it", rather than some guys interpretation of how he thinks they should have done it... From descriptions I'd say the beautiful one in the picture posted here is done as per the factory...GS stripes, flat chrome wheel trims, etc. Well done! |

Read the last line of 2011G6E post - he praised the current look of the car because it is back to factory specs...

Yes, I'm afraid when I read the newspaper article and how the guy didn't actually restore it, but rebuilt it "as he thought Ford should have done it", I was reminded of an old oil advertisement in Street Machine magazine which I will track down and scan in.
It had a mullet-headed young guy kneeling in front of a gold HK Monaro. The story said that he inherited his grandfathers genuine 327 Bathurst Monaro with very low kilometers, and knew he had something really special, a piece of Australian motoring history..."all mine!" he said. So he removed and fully modified the engine, repainted it, lowered it, fitted mags, did up the suspension, flared the guards, and redid the interior. Thanks mate...your genuine and very rare Bathurst Monaro is now just another Monaro, instead of being something that stops people in thier tracks when they realise what it is, and has destroyed any value it may have had. Yes, it's your car, but thankfully there are people out there who see the bigger picture and enjoy spending time doing a proper restoration and displaying a piece of history as it was when built. looks like it mate the bloke said he only owned it awhile and had it restored by the blokes next door to my work. It would be pretty cool if thats the car. He did say it was a rare care but that rare.

See the picture in the article and then look at the one at the start of the thread.
Different stripes, different colour vinyl roof, different wheels. ?

Why put such a rare item on an old crappy trailer?
I'd hate to see a broken axle or spring on the trailer........ *doh* |

I've known of this ad for years but didn't realise that the ute seen in this Ford ad was actually a SurferRoo.
