I am thinking about buying this car and selling my ute. What do you think? I have only owned an AU ute, so anything to look out for? Im aware of common things such as the pedal box. clutch cable eylette on the fire wall, water pump and alternaters having roughly a 10yr/150thou km life, rear shock mounts. Looks clean enough. What do you think it is a reasonable $$ worth offering? Should i be concerned with the S1 XR style kit on the side, being its a S2? p.s. do TL50 seats fit in a sedan without mods?

It's not too bad, but too much money IMO.
For a few thousand less, you could get a 220 series 3. It wouldn't go much worse, and won't have been messed with as much. BTW, that is a series 1, Check the egg. I couldn't see myself paying any more that 8k for that. BTW, are you a Dexter fan?

Series 1 is a good machine too, but that one isn't worth the asking price IMO. Quote:

Given that he cant tell you much about the mods.. does he have receipts?
Id be looking for a nice clean stock for a lot cheaper, and then throw a few grand at it to make it your own.

Thanks for your input everyone. Rather than buy another stocker, id rather keep my ute knowing what parts have been put into it in the last year.

Rule of thumb is never buy a modified car unless you know EXACTLY whats in it and who put it there. I personally wouldn't buy a stroker without knowing who built it and having a copy of the invoice or build sheet. Lots of potential for stuff to go wrong and it always makes me wonder why someone would spend so much on a car and then turn around and sell it.

^^ wha b2tf said. Personally I like the idea of buying a stocker, and doing it yourself. Cost more in the end, but at least you know its done to the standard that you would like it done.
Not to say there arent good buys out there, and you definately can save good money buy purchasing something already modded. Just be sure to research research research and if something doesnt seem right, then it most likely isnt. |

It bothers/concerns/confuses me the amount of people who have bought cars with mods already done, and now selling them, but know little or anything about them. I just made an equiry to a guy selling an EL xr8 which looks heavily modded with trickflow heads and monifold, ICE leads etc etc. but does not have any receipts and quotes friends of friends. Another 347 im no longer interested in.

Quite a few cars for sale with the owners waffling on about how much money they've spent modding it... if it's so wonderfull why are they selling it?! To be fair there are genuine reasons, but also plenty of dodgy ones. That stockish blue 220 kw one looks like a good buy. Does have a modified air intake tube (have they put the IAT sensor back in?) and a herrod tune... but the coolant header tank is nice and clean which is always a good sign.

IMO, the more you mod a car, the better (well sorted and done right) the mods have to be to have the car behave itself properly.
If I was going for a heavily modded car, I'd reckon I'd have to know the owner and the car history. Otherwise, unless you have heaps of cash to fix a previous problem, it's not really worth it. My 2 bob's worth! GK
