Just filled up at Coles Shell servo , bought more than $2.00 in store , previously you got an extra 2 cents per litre along with the 8 cent shopper docket. NO SIGNS up saying the extra 2 cents no longer available , not a great fortune lost , but over $2.00 which I could have had if I used the Woolworths docket. In future will be going to the Woolworths supermarket and their servo. At least they give 4 cents per litre , in this case an extra $4.00 along with their 8 cents a litre off.

That 8c / litre probably costs you 12c at the register when you shop ... I know my local BP always matches the discounted price and sometimes is even cheaper .

The problem is that if you shop at Coles or Woolies but don't buy your fuel at their locations then you've paid at the register and at the bowser, they pretty well have us over a barrel guys. When I fill the patrol she's a decent saving but like you've all said . . . They get you anyway

What ???????? BP matching the discounted price? Where is that happening? EVERY and I mean EVERY BP in Adelaide is always the dearest in every fuel cycle. Which is a shame because the guy that tinkered with my engine reckons they have the best Premium fuel.

The part that i love so much is watching people line up in massive queues to get their 4c a litre discount. Often in little bubble cars where it has a max capacity of 50 litres. Half hour later when i finish shopping, the have just finished filling up to save their 2 bucks. Provided they were bone dry of course. If they are willing to wait and idle their car for half an hour to save under 2 bucks, it makes you wonder if they'd be happy working for 4 bucks an hour doesn't it?

My time is worth way more than that. Life's too short for queuing.

Extra discount stopped Feb 1st. Yup, I buy the milk for work at the Coles and no longer get the bonus... Then again, the milk is cheaper...

I shop at ALDI and buy my fuel from BP. No fuel discount, but it ends up significantly cheaper overall, and is hopefully breaking the monopoly Woolworths and Coles have in both the grocery and fuel market.

I'm with you, I shop at the IGA that has been owned by three generations of the same family since 1933, then I buy my petrol from the crazy lady around the corner at the BP minimart. At least some of my money stays in town.

They take with one hand and give with the other, if they manage to destroy the independent operators the discounts will finish.

In reality, you're saving next to nothing anyway. Couple bucks at the register.

pretty much.
with our fly buys card, we get specials like save a 16c per litre if you spend over $240 at Coles/Bilo for example, and if you fill from bone dry its a fair saving so full 60L tank of premium @ 1.55/L = $93 after discount = $83 |

I fill up only at Coles/Shell express once a week for about 100L of LPG. With an 8c voucher I 'only' save about $8 per tank. Over the course of a year it's 'only' a saving of like $416. SFA. A few things also, my mum shops at Coles and gives me the vouchers, she often pays in separate $30+ transactions to get multiple vouchers in one shopping trip, yes they allow this. I shop at ALDI generally, so not paying the apparently inflated costs to cover the discount. Coles express LPG is usually the cheapest around to start with too. |

My response was to your "SFA saving" comment, when infact between my 2 cars it probably equals a yearly saving of near $600. Unless you're like a multi-millionaire $600 is not SFA. |

Where do you people live with all these lines??
I fill up either in Wollongong or Sydney and 95% of the time I pull right up to a bowser, or need to wait for 1 car. |

This thread must be full of people with plenty of cash when a $400-600 saving per year is not worth handing over a voucher for, thats like three weeks worth of shopping or your rego payed for or your insurance for the year payed for, or a few good nights out payed for or xmas presents for the kids and family covered for the year or 4-8 weeks worth of petrol depending on your usage payed for, etc etc. Wish I could afford to call that not worth it simply for claiming a discount, as its plenty worth it to me. Keeping in mind that you can only spend every $$ once and then it's gone, why are so many people here willing to throw away that amount of money?? Happy to post up my account details, and all you guys who don't worry about $600, and consider it a waste of time please feel free to deposit it into my account as I will make good use of it.

As for your $600 a year saving, keep believing that you’re saving, because that’s what they want you to believe. The truth is that they are reaming you sideways (without lube) and every day I see people who are prepared to wait, sometimes for nearly an hour just to use their shopper docket. If the two major corporate thieves weren’t in the fuel game, you’d probably be paying 90 cents a litre. Also, with your $600 a year fuel saving, have you noticed that your grocery bill has probably gone up $2500 a year?

So you recon there are servos with lines long enough to cause a one hour wait??? There might be one somewhere (have never seen it though), but it certainly is not common anywhere. Now you have me wondering do you get a discount on your groceries for not using the dockets or do you just grow and kill your own and not go to supermarkets??? The way I see it I need to shop regardless, no matter if I use the dockets/discount or not, so why not claim your rebate???

I venture all over the place at odd days and times, i steer well clear of docket servos these days, sometimes the line up is out the roadway Ive seen other servos compete on these days and offer it a few cents cheaper and the line up is the same Its all good with a pen and paper and say "wow look what i save ", but how many put that $8,$10 away ......???,none IF you deduct whatever you spend to get your saving and your time to wait, now not every docket place is a pull up and fill up, every time, deduct your time lining up,and your $600 is shot For me lining up to save $8 a tank is stoopid, then you have to deal with all the wombats who want a drink,or a feed,or cant make their mind up,"Nah not them smokes, the other ones"yep time is money and money is time Get your $600 a year ,then deduct other costs, a purchase you need, time to waste, buying from a dedicated store for the docket, tell me whats left |

If you save $10 or $5 or what ever it's an additional $5 you have in your pocket, regardless if you plan to put it away or not, remember most people already know what they will earn in the year, and you can only spend that $5 once. So you can either just give it to the servo or you can keep it and spend it on something else, like a coffee, or a burger or what ever. Comments from people here make no sense, unless you live in a vacuum, where you grow your own food, kill your own animals and make your own petrol, you are going to have to shop anyway, so might as well take advantage of any saving offered, when filling up at my local servo (there are several) the shopper docket one is usually the cheapest, so why would I not use my docket and fill up at the more expensive servo?? Or why would I fill up at the shopper docket one and not claim my discount and pay the extra??? We only have Coles Woolies and IGA, Woolies is the cheapest, and offers the cheapest fuel deals. So why would I spend extra for less and not claim my docket?? That would be throwing money away.

The whole docket system is a scam. The ACCC should grow some big, fat hairy balls and start breaking down this duopoly!
