With Ford confirming the return of the XR8 lets all assume the FH Falcon is now locked in.
I thought id start a thread about your expectations from this vehicle feature wise?. With the VF setting the benchmark at least in tech, and Bob Grazziano all but admitting Ford wont match Holden feature for feature what would you expect the new Falcon to be kitted out with? e.g # A version of "sync"? # Head up display for high series? # Blind Spot monitoring? # Heated and fully electric seats # Better brakes and rubber for performance models? Taking this into account and understanding the penny pinching nature of Ford releasing a car that is only going to market for a max of 2 years. what would you expect to be left out, or kept the same as FG... Thoughts??? |

Some of those things are the stuff of dreams (HUD and heated seats). Unless the tech/stuff is already immediately accessible to Ford Australia in the parts bin, it won't get the nod.
I expect it to have Keyless entry Goddamn auto up drivers window EPAS Front parking sensors Blind spot alert Better/more comprehensive ICC (no Sync I think)

Ford must match or come close to the VF..Their world car parts bin does have the parts.
If not, don't expect sales to improve. Auto up window has been on everyones wish list for years!!! Electric passenger seat on Titanium..hope they get rid of G6/G6E name. Have a look what the Taurus has and what we miss out on !!! http://www.ford.com/cars/taurus/

Remember though guys those products are aimed at the family luxury car market not the GT Style performance and modding market there is a big difference Ford know they are selling to a market who will buy, modify and play so don't really consider that stuff necessary. So will keep the frills to a minimum don't except much more than what we already have it is the end of the line after all.

That said it ***** me that the Territory Titanium only gets 6 way electric drivers seat whereas the G6ET gets 8 way, and the Territory Titanium is a more expensive car. Territory has EPAS so I'd expect that to carry through to the Falcon.

It won't match or come close - they are already saying this to manage buyers expectations. Basically it is a cheaper exit strategy to proceed with the FG3 update than hand back the federal cash they got to proceed with it. The lesser of 2 evils, path of least expense. Definitely not expecting any cream in the mix. |

I'd expect it to match up with what the Territory has plus a few extra touches. Nothing revolutionary.
I'd like to think that the highest performance versions (XR8/6T Sprint or something) will get the R-Spec rear end package but that's wishful I think. Sat-Nav standard in lower models, maybe from G6E/G6LE up. Brakes and suspension will be relatively untouched, too much of an investment for a shakey 2 year return.

FH will have most things that an MC Mondeo Titanium has. 1- DRL's 2- HID's 3- Front park assist with radar cruise control (Changes were made at broadmedows to implement this technology and test it). 4. Blind Spot assist (already in Mondeo). 5. Keyless Start / Entry. 6. Auto wipers. Things it wont have. 1. Auto park. 2. Rear radar. 3. Wheel size upgrade (we wont see 20 inch rims on any FH's). 4. Sunroof option. 5. Heads up Display. 6. Electronic handbrake.

Is the interior a complete redesign like AU>BA, or more along the lines of FG>FG2?

My thoughts on auto parking is that people who need it shouldn't have a licence. A factory sunroof option would probably require further ANCAP crash testing / structural modifications, which we know Ford won't want to do. |

You know I've read this thread a few times and I've gotta laugh at those that say it's gotta have this, this and that. Do you not all know by now Falcon is not going to be around after 2016, so why put in the effort to get something completely whizz bang and eye popping "to do it justice"? At most you will get a facelifted front, facelifted interior and maybe one gadget at a premium price as an option. That's it. No more, no less. Well, maybe less.

But it's not for the people that need it, it's for the people that want all the latest gadgets and gizmos in their car so they can show off to their friends and say 'hey look - no hands!'. It's not absolutely necessary to have anything other than a basic shell and all the mechanicals necessary for the car to run. But people aren't going to buy that anymore. It's 2013, not 1900. Cars these days are loaded to the brim with gadgets, whether it is absolutely necessary or not. The Falcon has a lot of catching up to do in that regard.

Well, seeing as I'm a dead cirt' to get an XR8 when they are finally released, Ford have got my money already.
Having said that, digital radio and keyless entry/start as standard. With possibly satnav would be nice. Decent brakes as well and a full sized spare. And obviously a V8 under the bonnet. Either way the last of the V8 Falcons will be living in my garage for many many years to come.

I'm still happy with my BF XR8, has a few creature comforts like aircon, power steering and a 6-stack CD player but more importantly only weighs 1740kg! (according to my rego). Great to hear the XR8 badge is back too...

Likewise with my BA XR8 with premium brakes - although a nice shiny new FH XR8 with circa 350 KW AND much improved (Brembo?) Brakes would definately be Verrrrrrry tempting..and if priced against the Com' SS would be irrestably tempting !

Last I heard the current Falcon still doesn't come with a digital radio. That is one thing that other Fords already have that the Falcon doesn't.

well we all know it comes down to budget etc.
But it at least needs to be on par with the VF in regards to tech and gadgets (excluding HSV). I think it would then be a good package, but I think the aftermarket accessories needs a revamp, Oh and get some better quality fake leather Ford!!! The seats in the GT are rubbish compared to my old BA XR.

Yes, contrary to common belief, the ute is actually significantly HEAVIER than the sedan. (The XR6T Sed = 1732Kg, XR6T Ute = 1810 Kg - as per Ford Specs) You would also gain a very nice IRS rear end that is lightyears ahead of the ute's museum piece - and which is much more rewarding for the driver. BTW, the Auto has Sequential Sports Shift - and can be used just like a manual. |
