Semi hypothetical, and quite objective obviously But what would be the most fun car to buy under $6000, driveaway.
No brand discrimination please... Back home it would be easy, there's a myriad of cheap jdm models available there, but here even the same models often have crap specs, and crappier drive lines compared to jdm stuff. Turbo, non turbo, manual. Auto, fwd awd rwd no matter... |

I just did a quick search and there are plenty of older Ford and Holden V8’s (including HSV) on Car Sales for under 5 grand, manual and autos.
They may be slow compared to today’s offerings but a V8 is a V8 and with a little playing around you’d have some great sounding cars that can be fun for simply what they are. As a V8 man through and through, I wouldn’t looking any further than those offerings. . |

Wow that leaves you loads of choice in 2013. Must be the reason Ford is going to keep making cars in Australia?

Define 'fun'.....
If you look a bit more out of the box, and you are not restricted by p plates, heaps to be had. Have seen Holden Astra turbos for a shade over that price, some good pugs/volvos/saabs, even alfa gtvs (twin sparks) are becoming dirt cheap. For example: http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...V2002-16025548 But all depends on you definition of fun and what you need (2/4 door)

If you were lucky to find a DC2 Type - R, that would be the pick...but they seem to hang around the 10g price...
Plenty of MX-5's under 6g...S13 silvias... Any E-series manual XR6/8... Depends what you want it for...

I occasionally get passed by this guy in his red smart car on the main highway out of our town, when the overtaking lanes start, he slowly cruises past in his little red smart car at 6AM in the morning lol.
I reckon they could be fun, it would have to handle quite well. |

$6000 isn't really that much. But I guess you can find a small nimble car for that price and have some fun around a tight race track or slalom course.

Those CRX are pretty much impossible to find unmolested, wouldn't mind one with a B18C conversion (Integra DC2R engine), they weigh like 900kg and with a B18C it would fly. |

The last one sold here was the one that looked almost like a compact ute from certain angles. Looked like a civic from the front.

I picked up my current manual AU3 XR6 for $3,200 with a RWC a couple of months ago, it just needed rego paid a couple weeks after I picked it up. It's heaps of fun now i've installed bilsteins all round and being an AU they're bloody reliable and parts are cheap.

Most fun car I have ever had was a standard 1979-80 Mk2 Escort 2 door. Would slide, understeer, ovrsteer, roll, porpoise, brake fade and screech the tyres at 40 around corners that the 'good car' was stuck planted at twice++ that speed. The fun was knowing if it did go wrong in this it would reult in a red faced spin, in the other car it would result in death. And racing another boggo escort down the old adelaide devils elbow road was a hoot of slow preportions. Though for 6 k these days thats all youd get a mildly modified (wheels exhuast webber and maybe stereo and tints) registerable Mk2 escort 4 door JP |
