They are down. All looks well. Soon to let the Rover Yutu to roll down the ramps for it's first look around. Landed in the Bay of Rainbows (Sinus Iridium).

yep thanks xr6 martin . when they said it was a 14 earth day rotation i understood that concept and edited my post to add that in . it probably wouldnt be clear that i did this to the reader . but thanks for the explanation . it's really interesting stuff , i had no idea the moons temps were that extreme . im really looking forward to new manned moon missions in my lifetime . i'm so proud of the chinese for doing this , it's been really dissapointing watching nasa and russia passing all these things off as old hat , when a whole generations only get to read stories about thier experiences and watch 60's technoligy footage . in a sense only the astronauts got to see it as it is . the old grainy movies didnt show much reality to it . imagine it all on HD !!!
and Whats wrong with our media !! whilst all this was going on i channel surfed TV , and aside from a few news headlines there were old re runs of tv sitcoms . that shouldve been live on several channels , and so should curiosity on mars . . obviously they dont want us to think outside of ONLINE SHOPPING SPECIALS , and info mercials |

I would have thought just bringing up aliens on the moon was an insult to all the fine men who risked their lives getting and landing on the moon.
Keep to topic was basically what I meant by my comment. Have respect for the people who risked their lives with risks that nor you or I know about.

China announced that they will share their findings with everyone, which I think is great.
Something humankind can benefit from. |

There is so much more to learn about the moon. I can't see how nasa doesn't want to go back there.

I suspect its not they don't want to go back, more a case of can't afford to, but don't be surprised if china starts reaping benefits from finding something worthwhile up there ............ nasa might suddenly find some cash to crank up the missions again, maybe the ruskys too.

We could test mars landing missions there. Obviously different circumstances but they could none the less.

I wonder if China will go the next step to set up a base on the moon and claim its apparent riches?

very interesting point . one would say if they can then why not . i vaguely remember some treaty being agreed to that no humans would be able to claim any rights on the moon though . cant remember where i read that . and also , wasnt some dude / company selling blocks of land on the moon , b you can buy them and claim nothing or cannot change it in anyway . ? |

if a base was to be setup I think it would be free rein, god knows what is up there as far as mining goes, then of course there is the low gravity in which to launch to other planets, galaxies, cosmos's. China would probably be the best to engage all happenstances as they came along. interesting times ahead if the Chinese actually do become fully engaged.

I think due to there being no atmosphere setting up a moon base is a bit outa our league ATM. When the sun sneezes a solar flare the occupants would be hit with waves of radiation. But as a temp yeah I guess it's not a bad idea. They could see if they could survive for 6 months and develop techniques and systems for a Mars landing and stay. Once on mars it's about a years wait to get home.

I remember glued to the carpet, sitting and watching absolutely enthralled by the first moon landing and first steps on one of the few TV's in the small town where I spent my younger years with around 10 of my class mates. the kids then had imagination, if it doesn't involve a hand piece these days the kids aren't interested.
