Coming across sometime around next weekend.
Great western Freeway and finish up Dorset Rd Bayswater.

Happy to go toll Rds but advice from Western Freeway to Eastern Freeway looks Ok but how to get from one to the other.

The easiest way would be to follow the ring road to the city, continue through the tunnel onto the monash
Follow the monash fwy until you get to ferntree gully rd .
Exit and continue until ftg rd meets burwood hwy.
Veer right and on Your left around 500 m down the road is dorset rd ( southern end )

This would have to the easiest route to take if you are not familiar with Melbourne

2 options:
with tolls
Right onto western ring road, down to westgate fwy, through the tunnel (tolls) onto Monash Fwy, left onto Eastlink (tolls), then pick the best road to get off at, most likely Canterbury Rd.

without tolls
Left onto western ring road getting off at the end at Greensborough. Then down greensborough hwy/Rosanna RD to Heidelberg, across to bullen. Down to eastern freeway, then get off at Springvale rd. Down Springvale rd to canterbury Rd. Then follow that into Bayswater.

After extensive testing of most routing through melbourne, the toll road isnt any faster than my option, and forget going via greensborough. Looks faster but is absolutely not.

Dont care about speed mate, its easiness Iam concerned about.I live in country city 12000 people know my way around Adelaide (sort of) but fruitcake Melb scares the beejeezus outta me esp towing 18fy flat bed trailer behind me ute.

might put big flashing lights on rear and sign ' Tourist dont know where Iam going'

The tunnel will involve tolls. Between the bridge and the tunnel needs care, make sure you are in the correct lane.
Don't be in the city between 4.30pm and 6.30pm. The Monash can turn into a car park around then.

Personally, I would rather go via Greensborough than the city.
Head south out of Greensborough (like the directions) towards Heidelberg then Bell street, Doncaster road to Springvale Road and intersect Canterbury road from that end.

The route i suggested is one i reguarly put my truck along when i was doing local work.

Whatever yu do, do not go via the greensborough route if you are at all unsure. The roads get narrow and the people are special around there

Want easier?

Ring Rd - Exit to City - through city tunnels - exit at East link freeway - Exit Canterbury Rd[ - Turn Right - 4 k's - Dorset Rd.

First set of light will be Canterbury Rd.

Freaking easy and stress free.

Forget Greensborough, I live around there and the traffic is pretty woeful at the best of times.
