At dinner last night i was sitting with someone who owns a VF SS 6.0L V8.
First he claims that tuned, over the radiator intake and catback exhaust he made 325rwkw on the dyno.. its a 6 spd manual. The power seems high for the minimal mods.. Then he asked me about my xr6t.. so i told him.. some basic mods and 331rwkw. He starts praising the xr6t and says those xr6 turbos go very well and would probably be slightly ahead of my SS to 100km/h but after that the SS would power away from it. I started to tell him that the xr6 turbo dont stop at 100km/h.. he sort of had a bit of a chuckle and said they are good cars no doubt but the big v8 will come over the top of it every day of the week, at speeds past 100km/h Im thinking do these holden drivers realise what they are getting into? Firstly i was a bit sceptical about his power claims with minimal mods and then he says he would get be just behind a modded xr6t to 100km/h and power away after that? He is a good guy, so i refrained from getting into an argument. But should i invite him to take him for a spin of the xr6 turbo to completely devastate him? I remember when the FG came out i test drove fg xr8 and xr6t back to back.. xr8 first and was happy with it in a manuel.. then xr6t and i was gobsmacked... completely tore the fg xr8 in half.. i think that will be his impression if he drives my modded turbo after his vf SS Last edited by HULK_I6T; 20-07-2015 at 09:20 AM. |

Why don't you both take it to the dragstrip and get your timeslips to compare?

I'd imagine the turbo 6 to be making more torque and over a wider span of rpm than the old 6L. Hence my thoughts that the 6 would have no issues keeping in front of the 8.
Benny.

If this thread is a cautionary tale about dinning out I say eat at home, that way you know what you’re getting.

My Wife's last car was a SSV wagon with full exhaust, OTR and maff tune and made 270rwkw. His claims seem pretty high. My BA F6 in the opposite side of the garage was a much faster car. Had nizpro cooler, injectors and tune. Made 269rwkw
I doubt very much your mate has ever driven a turbo powered ford. |

If lucky I might have picked up another 5 to 10kw after she loosened up. Nice comfy streetable power but you’d never consider it quick enough to race anyone and most Commodore owners who take the time to have their cars tuned know it. Where does the Hulk dig up these people? |

Ive never met someone who knows / meets so many people with modded cars... All my friends have Corollas and Mazda 3's, I must be unlucky.

To add to what I am sure is a very Tall story from Hulk.. My FG XR6T that (at the time) only had a K&N Panel filter in the standard airbox, and no other mods, beat a VE SS 6 Speed manual with full exhaust, OTR intake and mafless tune. This was at Powercruise and done a few times... Didn't believe my car was stock.. I don't think people know just how quick these things are in stock form, let alone modded...

Hulk your friend is correct, you should listen to him and go buy a commodore and join Street commodores forum to discuss all about commodores.

It is an interesting concept though...modded Commodore V8 versus modded XR6T...surprised this has never been discussed theoretically, let alone ever actually occurred on the road or down the quarter.
Oh, now I see it - it's the dig about the XR8 in the last paragraph, isn't it? There's Wally! |

The Commodore would kill the Ford, absolutely slaughter it, the turbo Ford wouldn’t even be in the contest and I can’t understand why you’d even bother to ask that question on a Ford Forum unless you wanted to embarrass the members that own those slow modded XR6T's.

Its just hard to let these things be.. yes the commodore guy has his opinion but this is a matter of fact...not opinion.
Something says something like this and i feel its my duty (it's also your duty) to tell them the truth. I could save him from egg on face should we proceed to the drag strip If anything the ss would likely be in the hunt to 100km/h and then the big bully xr6t turbo torque just drive away from him. If this fellow is so naïve he believes a tuned and very mildly modded SS Commodore is producing 325rwkw then he's not into cars and there is next to no chance he’s ever or will ever frequent a drag strip. Car guys know the truth about their cars and its competitors and that even includes the one eyed fan boys even if they won’t admit it. If he was into cars he would have made up an inflated figure that was more believable. Makes me wonder why someone who’s not a car person has had his car tuned unless it’s second hand and he bought it that way. Which makes me wonder where he got the 325 figure from. Which makes me wonder about the whole story. What a Barry Crocker of a story, it makes me wonder. |
