Is the TV news being selective about what they report? Watching the evening news and none of the channels reported on the absolutely horrific incident involving the Muslim Nanny in Moscow that took place late last night! Why is it not being reported?
Is there a gag order because of the nature of this being so violent? Who decides what the TV news can report or not report? |

I'm surprised that you think tv news is unbiased.
why would you think such a thing? they are owned, not by the public, but by business interests. |

Same as there is very little news coverage of what's going on in the states between the cops and minorities.

Informing the public is not in the best interests of the mainstream media. They don't observe the prevailing attitude, they create it.

News editors would ask what relevance and public interest the story holds for their viewers. Given the significant unknowns and relatively isolated incidence, gruesome as it was, it wasn't deemed news worthy, just like all the other atrocities you don't hear about daily.
Does your concern over its lack of airtime relate to the act or the perpetrator? JP |

I can't help but think it was not reported to... "keep the peace". As there would be a lot of emotions being stirred, and a lot of anger expressed if it was widely known what happened. |

At lunch at work today I bought up the subject with workmates and NONE of them knew of it. And these guys work on the factory floor with a radio blasting all day. I told them to watch the evening news and you'll see for yourself. Well....
Wonder how many members here knew of the incident before reading this thread? |

Why is it any more newsworthy than any other tragedy. Especially given the likely divide between the Australian community and the incidents main players. Anecdotally a person in a burka wielded a head and was apprehended, the news reports corroborate not much more fact than that, from alleged witnesses?
How did you hear about it? Assuming your not implicated I assume you found out through a news outlet, Aljazeera possibly? Editors make judgement calls, if you don't agree take their jobs, write a letter, or accept their judgement and move on with your life, best not obsessing about such sad stories JP |

I saw the story on news.com.au but chose not to read it, just like I choose not to read most of those types of stories. I have no doubt though that if it was aired on more wide stream media, then like you, religion probably would have been mentioned also. Safe bet that's why you didn't hear about it on the tv or radio. |

The fact she parades a head of a child yelling "allah akba" "I'm a terrorist" "I hate democracy", wearing a prayer outfit because the voices told here to. No, obviously nothing to do with being a muslim or religion. |

Pretty sure if a Christian or Buddhist killed a baby in the name of their god and then paraded the severed head around public street screaming out religious slogans people would mention that as well. Why are you afraid to call it what it is?? How often do we see Christians/Buddhists (name your religion)etc parading around the streets with severed heads in this day and age?? Yet it seems to be a common and quite popular practice usually done by persons following the muslim faith. Every other week (probably happens more than we know anyway as only the tip of the iceberg would actually reach our media) some poor bugger get their head cut off or gets burned alive or thrown off buildings or stoned to death all in the name of allah. If the majority of muslims and muslim leaders in general do not agree with this behaviour they should speak up against it publicly, but they don't, so by their silence many (including myself) would assume that they agree with these actions of the deranged members of their faith doing these acts in the name of their religion and imaginary god. Instead these perpetrators get promised great things in their next life as they have done a great job by killing infidels. I have several muslim acquaintances, and some try and justify this sort of behaviour while fewer seem to speak against it when asked about their thoughts, I have one good friend who was a Muslim and he denounced his faith after 9/11 and is now a devout atheist. Another of my muslim friends went the other way and we are no longer friends. At the end this is all about my imaginary friend is better than your imaginary friend Really it's 2016 and every sane person should by now realise that there are no imaginary friends

They mention her religion because she was holding a severed head yelling "God is great". I know some like to apologise for this religion but news should report the religion when it's relevant.
And if they didn't mention Muslim and just reported the incident, most people would assume a person holding a severed head yelling allah akbah is religious |

No they dont, but religion was a bit over used in the stories I saw, and it was those networks you mention and also BBC believe it or not.

It was a 'religious' act. Correct me if I am wrong but does not Islam allow for the beheading of 'infidels'?
Would more noise have been made if the murderer had Christian connections? I am sure the condemnation would have come thick and fast, and rightly so, but there is a reluctance to point the finger at Islam... Last edited by superyob; 01-03-2016 at 11:50 PM. |

From the stories I saw it didn't sound like it was a religious act, but the horrible murder of a baby by someone that happend to be a muslim. They were early stories I saw more info might have come ti light later.

I think we can see already why tv news editors are selective in what they show...

I hope it was actually a judgement call to not run it by the media on tv.
Nonetheless, the end result is the preferred in my view on not showing it regardless. Sad story, apparently nutter of a nanny. Feel so sorry for the family of the victim. So so sad.

Both the Sydney Morning Herald and the Daily Telegraph here in Sydney headlined the story earlier today with video.
I don't know about the television news as I was out and missed it. |

So it appears the news has filtered across the networks as interest and information grows. No bias or selectivity just good old vilification I sounds like!
