Hi guys, just looking for some advice.
I'd like to get an exhaust system done up that allows me to change from "moderate" to "loud", and vice versa, without going back to the exhaust shop each time. I know there is the VAREX type system but I'm not really interested in that as I don't want to "block" the pipes. I just want to be able to swap out mufflers / straight pipes to get different sounds. Has anyone had an exhaust shop done up a system that allows easy swapping in and out of certain sections? Is it easier to go with a system that allows swapping out the tail or mid section? Any drawbacks e.g. will I get exhaust leak at the flange if I'm constantly unbolting and bolting? Would be keen to hear how others have done it. |

Hi. No reason at all that an exhaust place cant make a system with different mufflers that fit in the same place other than you will need to buy 2 or 3 cat back systems in one hit. Other problems may be getting a muffler that sounds good in one system to sound good with another resonator or straight pipe or larger or smaller pipe. All of a sudden the Varex muffler might be the cheaper option, plus no lying on your back in the cold changing a muffler to get a RWC when you can turn it down before you attract attention. Cheers MD

This is the one I'm looking at. When the valve is closed, I can see exhaust flowing through the secondary pipe and bouncing off the closed valve and reversing until it hits the next pulse. Would this not cause performance issues?

Buy a choke pull exhaust Y junction and run two exhausts, a cheap version of the varex.
Or one of the site sponsors, Venom exhaust makes a few different middle BA-BF sections that fit xforce systems etc, http://www.fordforums.com.au/forumdisplay.php?f=344 they sell straight pipes middle section, you can get full muffler middle section and hot dog middle section, that's 3 choices in the middle pipe section. |

Hot Rodders have been doing versions of this for years, as above either put caps on your full flow system or run a cable To to a junction valve

I got a local bloke to make up 2 x flanged rear sections for my x-force system. 2 bolts each side, and 3 hangers in total and the rear mufflers are off and replaced with straight through 3" pipe. It is loud, and terrible when cold, but good when warm, expect at 1250 to 1750 rpm, but I just avoid that range. Cost me $300 all up (and it's full stainless). To keep gaskets sealing properly, the dude told me to use silicon with the gasket when I change rear sections.

My brother does his own systems out stainless, you can buy some very nice stainless fittings that allow you to remove bits /swap bits very quickly, I'll see if i can get the name of the company he buys his bits of, they may have a catalogue.

Think I may have found the solution. One of these right between the mid and rear muffler. Not sure if the BA falcon has enough room underneath to do it though...will look into it...

i was going to buy a venom muffler delete mid pipe for the GT, it bolts in place of the factory or (xforce) system that i have. I haven't bought it yet as i never use the car but i entered it in summernats so if it gets approved i'll do it, just 4 bolts and i can swap it over
currently its loud for a road car but it would sound like a camry if i took it to summernats

Have had it on a few cars I've had, just have flanges each side of the muffler so you can unbolt it and bolt in straight pipe/loud muffler etc

Varex don't sound all that great..
Look up electric exhaust cutouts. You can get them for $232ea from VPW in any size. Up to you how loud you want it. Spoke to my brother about where he sourced his stainless bits http://www.geordi.com.au/ , he reckons he used geordie stainless for some of his exhaust bits and they where very good , but some of it was a tad on the heavy duty side for car applications he reckons , now he gets a lot of his joiners and bits and pieces of ebay .
