Default AUIII fairmont t-bar: from plastic+pearl to woodgrain+chrome (pics)

It's a relatively minor aesthetic change. The surround and clear selector window on mine were scratched, so I thought I'd take a bit of a leap and fit some Ghia replacements. The parts cost me about $113 from Bayford, but if your selector window is fine then you can reuse it (-$20)

Now I just have to decide whether it's worth another $190+ to replace the t-bar with a leather+chrome Ghia version...

the woodgrain finish seems to spoil it IMO, the look good with the light grey interiors. Opt for the standard one and fit the leather (warm charcoal) t-bar handle with chrome button and will look tops!

Looks great, what was the part number for the woodgrain part?

It does look a little odd cos all you've shown in the pic is the woodgrain surround, but it will certainly blend in with the MDC and the panel in the dash. A MOMO Leather/Woodgrain wheel would really top it off, Ive always wanted one for our fairmont but theyre getting harder and harder to find for a good price.

We're only seeing a snippet here. Post up a pic with a little more of the interior showing. Maybe he's got other woodgrain in the car and maybe it does actually match?!

Nice, can you throw up the part # for the Glass Window Selector... Mine has a scratch on it, that bugs me everyday.

Cheers.

Wonder how it looks without the woodgrain part? I get sick of the woodgrain in my car until someone tells me how nice it looks again. But I might one day down the track have it re-skinned with a mesh style covering. I saw some company's website that does it.

T3 Parts are in the Carbon Fibre finish nistead of the woodgrain. They look great but your wallet will never recover if you buy the genuine items.

MUCH cheaper to have the normal items coated by somewhere like Modicoat.

Yes, I saw it and that's what made me wanna do it.

I wonder if you can peel it off later for resale of the vehicle.

Ok, got out the wide angle lens and dashed outside before it got dark... does it look any better with the full view? I think it's a nice touch without going overboard (eg woodgrain all over the doors, or doing the entire radio surround etc)

Also on the list: I am going to replace the black plastic 'mont inner handles with Ghia ones.

Default Part numbers

NU 7A306 A (HOUSING) - chrome inner housing $9.70
NU 7A306 B (HOUSING) - woodgrain part $77.43. not exactly cheap
AU 7E213 A (LENS TRANS CONTROL) - selector lens $16.16

The invoice pricing appears to be ex-GST (it's added at the bottom) so tack on 10% to those prices.

e, $77 for the woodgrain is a bit of damage!

Dauphin, The Modicoat finish cant be removed once its on as far as i know. I think they actually kinda 'bake' the finish onto the part when its done so it lasts longer and looks better.

And I just gave mine away! Wish I'd known it was worth that much. Actually. it's not "worth" that much, it's just what Ford charges for it. Fairmont_Krissy, your deal is looking better and better, even if I do say so myself.

Rowan - the interior looks great - now all you need is the Momo woodgrain wheel to top it all off (I know someone else already said it, I am just reinforcing the idea). Too bad I just sold mine, or I would have offered it to you.

Cheaper than what I've seen on EBAY. Started @ $140 and went up. So it looks abit cheaper than that.

Mmmm that certainly looks good mate.

I reckon i would be interesting to see brushed aluminium in place of all the woodgrain.

Looks fantatsic mate. Those prices are dirt cheep when comparing to EL Ghia woodgrain selector surround! (arround $400 i think).

Matches the fairmont dash perfectly. Next mod would have to be chrome door handels, makes a MASSIVE diffrence.

Do you have to pull out the center console to change just the chrome surround part?

Yes, it is easy to do. There's a tutorial on aufalcon.com and it's also good for getting crumbs and dust out.

Picked up the chrome surround and Chrome handles makes a huge difference to look fo the interior.
Also Rex Gorrell have the Momo shifters for $59 on sale... couldnt resist.
Has anyone tried spraying the t-bar button with chrome paint?

Cheers, Phil
