I've removed my premium stereo a few times over the years - last time was to refit the modicoated strip above the passenger airbag about 18 months ago.
Since then the two vents at the top of the centre facia have developed an annoying rattle, so today I attempted the get the stereo out again with the old two bits of coat hanger wire bent into shape trick so I could fix said rattle. To my endless frustration, I could not get the stinkin thing to move out. For all I know I've now busted the lugs on the frame and I won't be able to get the bastard out easily. I also managed to break the flap on the cassette player (do not try to reef the stereo out using the cassette player opening...), which is probably one of the $2 parts you can't get on it's own... grr. Anyhoo, if anyone has done the removal thing lately, any hints on getting this sucker out? If even the proper Ford tools don't work, what are my options? :

I went to Ford to change my CD Player with tape to 6 stack cd player and changed it over for me for free.

That's good of them, but I'm not sure that solves my problem though.

Your problem sounds identical to mine. Just head to your nearest car audio place and they should take it out for ya. Alternatively, I got a butter knife and pryed between the exterior of the deck and the fascia, until I could feel the bracket (tehre is only one, its on the left hand side) and just pushed it outwards and the deck almost shot out at me.
if that doesnt work, have fun.... previous to my knife escapades I managed to scratch the absolute s-hite out of my fascia. - Shane |

Yep this job sux abit if you dont have the tools ,I wanted to change my xr6 6 stack for my single CD in my wagon and had the wagon one out using the old coathanger method in a flash, but for the life of me couldnt get the Xr6 one out,(maybe it didnt want to go?) so the 6 stack went with the ute when i sold it.My coat hanger peices were just a U shape but ,I cut a groove in the end to grip on the clips which I worked out from removing the first one.
the hardest part is getting a grip to pull it out. Im replacing mine with an aftermarket stereo shortly so I wont be looking forward to this. |

Yes, but as I've explained in my first post, I used coat hangers. Also, I've actually got the stereo out before, only this time it's not coming out...

yeah coat hangers work in some cases but i think in DeathXR's case he might have to bite the bullet and get some blaupunk keys cause they have little taps on the end that grab the bracket

With the bent coat hangers or the tools you have to push them outwards, the left towards the left door and the right towards the right door, sometimes you can get one side to move and the other side sticks but with a little bit of patience they come out in the end.
It is a good idea to have someone else push the stereo from the back while you are using the coat hangers as they don't have the grip bits on the end like the tools have. Good luck |
