the AU2 has a replacement gearbox in it, the dipstick got the flick from Ford because people were using the wrong oil and servicing the trans themselves

If it's not leaking the level will be fine.

G'Day - I'm assuming if you don't know where the dipstick is, and your trani is leaking oil, your prob not gonna be able to properly fix the leak, so take it to a mechanic.
So if you have a leak, toping it up aint gonna make it go away. P.S. I'm not having a go, just pointing that out. Sorry. Enjoy the forums though :

i am a back yard mechanic ,and i can tell you the EL's are same, sealed unit,if auto is playing up take it to Transmission place so they can service it,they will also hook it up to computer to diagnose trans and computer ,cost about $130 average. and they will give you computer readout when done .if they dont have these tests then take it somewhere else as it cant be done the old way.

I had a dipstick fitted to the trans in my wife's AU1. The trans died prematurely, and the trans shop fitted one off an EF.
I found the dealerships checked fluid level, not fluid colour....

Welcome to the forums,
You'll learn heaps here, many good guys are very keen to share knowledge advice and help each other out, all whilst celebrating the great car that is the AU! Hmmmmm sounds rather like an ad! LOL! About the transmission though, I've decided that I should have it serviced each 20.000 kays or once a year around the same time. The unit is sealed, there is an inspection hole but I would much rather have a professional change the fluid, filter and gasket as well as run a computer diagnosis for not much more than $100 per year. Cheap insurance I reckon! GK |

THANKS, $100 isn't bad for a inspection, and peace of mind.

EFII was the first of the non-dipstick autos.
Inspection bolt is on the driver's side as well. EDIT: hello all I am back after 2-3 weeks away from here
