LOL, unrestricted roads are good, but after a while you get sick of pushing the car hard, wasting petrol and slow down to 150-60 or whatnot. Most locals cruise around that speed... My old pulsar that was the top speed.
Darwins good for a week, stay any longer and it gets boring. |

Josh,
Good point about the unrestricted limits. But from what I know (not much!) the higher the speed the higher the risk due to the wildlife wandering around unrestricted i.e. buffalo! You do not want to tackle one of those. But I'd dearly like to take the Focus up there and give it a go though!

Not to mention the road trains, the last of the trailers get some massive death wobbles happening and can swing a whole lane wide, leaving you feeling lucky you're still alive.
Eddie - that's why in the NT on the unrestricted roads they clear the flora back about 200m from the road in an attempt to give you more visual time to see wildlife emerging, but unfortunately skippy is pretty fast on his feet. Timmeh |

Well we haven't sorted out the final route, but alot of us have not been to the new bridge just north of Wollongong that's out over the water and supposed to be quite a sight.
That's the destination, we're just working on the other details. Timmeh |

Guys - don't do the south run past Stanwell Park. Went today - it is 60kmh whole way down and i was stuck behind a L plater doing about 30kmh around a bend. I was SCREAMING by the time he disappeared (ALmost at wollongong). Mind you i was in a Honda HRV and i was soooooooooo furious. Imagine if i was in the Fiesta....
I say scrap it! No overtaking points either.

However, during the day it was disappointing. I was screaming out aloud in the car from being so stirred. NOT doing this road again!

So who would be up for having a navigator/passenger tag along. He is not a bad looking bloke, who loves a good cruise with lots of excitment and wont whine or complain. Can supply esky full of snack and drinks if needed.
Any takers?

We'll guys it is a scenic road, and you have a lot of mind-numb tourists from the inner city and overseas going through that road. It annoys me that some people aren't comfortable feeling G-forces whilst cornering.(acceleration for that matter). I was teaching my GF to drive manual on the weekend down that way, and she's not the fastest of drivers, but when one corner you get a glimpse of some tail light then by the next corner your on their ***, you get annoyed pretty quickly. And thats with me as a passenger!
Best time to do the natio run, is a weekday or at night. Its a fun drive regardless. Oh yeah organisers, I can bring a gas barbeque on the day if that helps. |
