Time and experience
A big committment of personal time
A sense of fairplay
The ability to understand and accept others can have differences of opinion
A willingness to help
The ability to be objective
No desire to use a public forum as a personal sounding board
The acceptance other members
And most importantly the acceptance of the senior modorators

Those are not any sanctioned AFF criteria, but I think you'd find them close to mark for almost any well run forum.

Oh yeah and in Garys case anything he damn well wants too. He's probably a big softy but I'd like to see someone game enough to tell him.

Spot on the money..

For all the fun & bolloks that goes on in a place like this.. these are the most sought after character traits that any budding moderator can have.
The biggest thing I have personally learnt from my many years at the game is humility. You must put other peoples opinions before your own on 99.3% of the time. A hard ask on most days but it has to be done to keep the place humming..
If you don't have a community atmosphere on your forum then you have nothing...

Yep moderating looks like way too much work, I am instead working on, one day becoming cynical, myself.
It may look like fun campers, but I'm sure the budding moderators out there would soon find its a big committment, and something that only some can do well.

I would say it takes a lot of bribery,intimidation,heavy-handedness, sheer contempt for others, and downright hate (youve gotta have the hate).

But the easy way is what has been said above.

Commitment is a big part for all moderators. Allthough taken lightly sometimes, a large amount of time visiting ALL posts is required. Like them or not, Mods must read everything.

yes agreed, its a lot harder than most think, then when you edit a post, the poster gets angry... sometimes people can post and each member can interpret it a different way...Respect for each other post's is important, even if some dismisses it as irrelevant. .

Are we still talking about Laminge here? :

Trust me it didn't take much convincing after years of driving Datsun 1600's it was ony a matter of time.

Now I have a Mk I & II Escort and the EB. :1syellow1

The only one out of them all that isn't running is the EB. :

Indeed mate, you put on quite a show there, I doubt anybody who witnessed it will forget it in a hurry.

I know personally it certainly made the trip down to AFD well worth it.

Without a doubt the funniest thing I've seen for years.. I just can't get the the bloke out of my head.. His leg was in the air to take a simple step.. then bBOOM!! He froze on the spot.. looked around & said "Oh root that!" & took the long way around the front of the car..
Dead set classic! :

Mmmm, yes.... makes a lovely top coat for the back half of the XD

T'was a great disply though, the picnic rug flipping over from the sheer volume of air coming out the exhaust, the ladies getting the fright of their lives, the little kid that would have needed an underwear change and the 6" flames shooting out the exhaust were pretty good too!

Can't wait to see the 7000RPM limiter display!
