I've just purchased a thunderjet 429 ci motor out of an early ford thunderbird.
Plan: To make between 450-500hp and be driveable on a daily basis. want to run 11-12 second quarter in xa-xb sedan. Engine runs 10.5:1 comp stock!!!!!!!!!! COMBO: -750 vac sec avenger holley -Edelbrock air gap manifold -Crow cams 507/536 lift cam 1700-4800rpm -Hydraulic cam with anti pump up lifters -Roller rockers/guide plates + stainless steel valves -Dove heads polished and ported with comb chambers CC'd -Balanced bottom end running shot peened rods with 'dished' hypertectic pistons -ARP head, main bolts and rod bolts -Clevite tri metal race bearings throughout. -Twin 21/2 inch exhaust with 4-1 extractors -Engine will run C6 (shift kit) with 2,500 rpm stall Completion date: Hopefully early next year depending on $$$$$$$$$$ |

Sounds awsome mate.
They are a good motor, Dad has one sitting in his garage for a project one day. keeping it low revving by the looks of that? 4800rpm isnt all that much.. but the 450-500hp you are after wont be hard to get with what your doing to it. they guy that dad bought his off said it can comfortably see 6000rpm. He's also got a 460 sitting next to it, and physical size there is nothing in it, they are a massive motor! |

The cam is actually the second largest hydraulic cam CROW CAMS offer and is supposed to rev out to 6,000 (makes power up to 5,500). These are the figures they put down in the catalogue, which even the bloke working their said was 'CRAP' don't take any notice of it.
The engine requires a bigger cam with more overlap to bleed off some of that static, otherwise it will detonate itself pieces. |

Ahh no problems, just read 4800rpm and thought, wait a minute thats 'soft' lol..
power to 5,500 and revs till 6000rpm sounds a bit more like it Dads one from last I heard was making 380hp, and it only had carb and headers from memory(dosnet have headers anymore). I havn't heard of these motors detonating from compression issues, there you go! learn something new every day.. im kinda hoping dad doesnt do anything with it, so I can get my hands on it and do something with it lol. Cant wait to see how this all goes, make sure you keep us updated ;) and pics are good to lol |
