could some one tell me if the mk 1 escort was available in australia with a 1600 cc motor (apart from the twin cam ) and if so what carby was used?
also was the mk 2 2ltr ever avaliable with twin side draught caries? thanks |

yea mate it was i got one with the engine out at the moment. i got a new sidedraft 40 webber goin on there but not sure wat the came out with. all mine have had webbers.

nah they didn't they came out with the1300 and 1300gt 1 has standared carby and the other had a weber and i dont think there was a factory 2l that had the twin webbers on them and there were also the 1100 mk1's as well

Nah I don't think they ever came out with 1600's but I know mk2's did. It might be a 1600 out of a cortina or a mk2 escort.

No 1.6 for Mk1. Only 1.1, 1.3 and 1.3GT.

They did come out with 1600's but not in Australia. The "Mexico" Escort was put together to cellebrate the London to Mexico rally in 1970. It was basically a 1600GT in a Type 49 Mk 1 shell. Was so popular it carried over to the Mk 2. Came in wild colours with a stripe down the side and over the roof, and "mexico" decals over the doors. Original Mexicos are fetching 3-5000 pounds in the UK nowadays.
