Default TRD in Australia

That's right FPV & HSV will have TRD to deal with now

Will be interisting to see what they can do with there Australian range...

I might be missing something but they talk of a S/C V6 how is that any real oposition to the F6 Phoon or evan XR6T?

And they still don't have talk of a V8, TRD will not crack the Aussie Performance Car Market without a V8...

Exactly.

It looks like their flagship will be the Sportivo! ... good luck Toyota.

The Japanese are experts with 6 cylinders. Give them a straight 6 block, and a turbo(or two) and the result is brilliant.

And the Aussies do it almost as quick, half the price and driving through only 2 wheels...

If its AWD, then I might wake up.....But if they stick with FWD, then I'll just stay asleep!
They'll need a bloody good car to compete seriously with FPV and HSV.

And thats why their cars are unreliable and built like a heap of s**t.

Everyone laughs at Toyota but I for one envy what they're capable of. Think of the immortal corolla, what the GT4 and especially the Supra achieved. There are highly modified Supra's running a reliable 900rwhp on a stock box and bottom end, they also have the renowned silver top and black top 20 valve engines capable of spinning to 9,000rpm with very few mods - again on a stock bottom end...this is what engineering is about and the sign of a company who doesn't do things by halves.

We've got an 87 Corolla CSX we use as a shopping trolley and its been constantly pinging for the past 3 years, covered 160,000km on the same timing belt and gets absolutely thrashed day in/day out hot/cold and it refuses to die. (I've been trying to make this thing go 'pop' to free up some engine bay real estate for a 20v silver top : )

Don't kid yourselves people... Toyota has the knowledge, wealth, reputation and engineering expertise to build much better, and much more reliable cars than both Ford and Holden ever could.

No one should be doubting that. The question is...will they bother bringing it to the measly Australian market ?

I don't believe what I'm hearing.

Firstly, FPV seems to be killing all lately and what, with their v8? No, Typhoon anyone?

Have you all forgotten what kinda car the Supra was?

I really wouldn't be quick to can TRD - I think it will do a hell of a lot smarter than it's rivals.

I bet they won't need a V8, a lot more people are getting into the sports hatches and other smaller performance cars. Sure FPV and HSV are dominating now but what about later? What are the younger gen of drivers looking at now? That's right smaller hondas, toyotas, etc. Ford did a great thing by bringing the XR5T in as it is a way into that market, so I think Toyota will be there seriously with this TRD business. FPV and HSV need to take it is a legit threat and anyone who doesn't think so is either blind or too arrogant (Crennan).

Being a younger driver i have a Blown MKII xr8 and bought a BF ??? last week. Little turbo 4's will never threaten the T6 or v8 market.

Yes they do weave some magic with the sixes (300ZX and R33 spring to mind, even though the Zed is a V6).

They'll probably do most of they're business in the small hatches. Take a good look at 99% of Camry drivers, all they want is a reliable A to B car. Besides, the last thing the "Bowling Club Set" need is a supercharger....though they may actually make it up to the speed limit in the left lane now!! :

Wasn't there a prototype going around a few years ago? S/C V6 in the MkIII (convertible) shell?

Both HSV and Ford have recently released performance hatchbacks. TRD is tapping into this market. As both the XR5T and Golf GTI have shown there is a market for these cars and demand is currently much higher than both car makers can handle.

is it a prerequisite that all performance brands are 3 letter acronyms?

If FPV don’t lift their game with the V8 models than they might be in trouble. 1:45’s at Winton from a 5.4 litre 290kw RWD is nothing to brag about.

FPV won Motor Mags comparison from the HSV Senator and the Chrysler SRT, it was won becsause they said it was the best overall car !!!!!

I personally dont give two F's who is quicker around Winton ! Interseting that you believe that FPV's sales results hinge on who is quicker around Winton :

I never said that sales results hinge on laptimes - although Subaru seem to. If something that is older, FWD, half the engine capacity, half the power output and quicker around some tracks (and not that much slower at the "power" tracks with R-spec tyres) doesn't that mean that there is something fishy or lacking about the expensive "performance" sedan?

I'd rather have quicker lap times than quarter mile times - horses for courses, your opinion is different to mine.

Maybe Ford needs to rethink their V8 or develop a "super" Typhoon (more than 290kw) to sit above the GT-P?

I wish Ford well with FPV (not that their success depends on it one way or the other) but I don't think that the top of their range shows what they are really capable of doing.
