Default How long can it take!!

I dont know if this is the right place to post this, but i will start here anyway and if it gets moved then so be it.
I was just wondering if anyone knows how long it should take to get my car fixed!! It has been gone for SIX WEEKS now and its getting beyond a joke! I mangled the front end, so it pretty much all needed to be rebuilt, but i would think it would have been done by now! How long have people had to wait after an accident to get their cars back?
I should also add that its being done through the insurance, as i have full comp, dont know if that makes any difference.

I was the first car in a 3 car pile up(ie the one that didnt do anything wrong) and tho i only had 3.5k damage done to the rear, it took 24days to get it back! Its a total joke! Have you put any pressure onto your insurance company for a answer why its taking so long? From what i remember your damange was only minor aswell wasnt it?

damn, so it looks like this is just how long these things take, that sucks. i did think i had light damage initially, but it turned out not to be the case. apparently the front end was pushed out of alignment by a few inches and they needed to 're-jig' the front end, whatever that means. i also managed to put a hole in the radiator, crush the a/c compressor and scratch both head lights. this was on top of destroying the bumper, grille and dinting the bonnett.
I called the isnurance, but they could not give me any details as the policy is under mums name.
I guess i will just have to be more patient, and i was looking forward to going to the dyno day too! :

Had a roo take out my RHF gaurd, door, and quarter panel back in 04. I got them to touch up a scratch on the roof at the same time and it took 5 weeks to get my ute back... Working in spare parts and seeing how much these guys take on in one week is utterly ridiculous, if only panel repairers would organise themselves job by job they would be half reliable, that said its been 4 weeks waiting on some rear pursuit skirts for my ute to be painted... GRRRR nearly had enough, not like my car is off the road but I just want it done.
When AWC get their hardcover on sale I'll be getting them to supply, paint and fit for this reason.
Just my 2 cent rant
I feel for you mate

This is not the right place. Ringing your insurance company and/or the repairer is the only way to know how long it will take. If it's rained recently, or there have been a lot of accidents, then it may take longer as the repairer and insurnace comnpany juggle the work to be done.

Also, if you had any performance parts in your car that were not noted on your insurance policy, it may take a while for the repairer to remove them and replace with stock parts.

More than likely, especially if you give the repairer the s.

anything you change you have to let the insurance company know, how else are they going to know ? I'd pretty much bet that it's going to come back looking like a stock Futura unless you told the insurance company you'd changed the grille. In my experience this doesn't change the cost of the premium, they just make a note of it and it should be added if a crash occurs.

It would certainly be within their rights to do so. They cover the standard car, and any noted mods. So they wouldn't know to replace your smashed fairmont grille with a new one, they would just replace with the standard grille for that model.

Took 2 months to get my baby back after I got rear ended, and I made sure I told the insurance company EXACTLY what was on the car. They had it listed down as a 2002 XR6 which means they wouldn't of put the right bodykit or anyth8ing else in unless I told them...

Mine had clear tail lights before my smash and they replaced them with clear tail lights when they werent listed on my policy.. I guess because the smash wasnt my fault and the other persons insurance was paying.

Hold ups could include anything from :

- the assessment of the car not being done
- waiting on parts
- the panel beaters taking their sweet ar$s time
- your insurance company being slack to arrange the ok for the repairs

Just get your ol' lady to give them a call. Surely the panel beater can tell you more.

Every accident I've had, I've had my car back within a week.

are you racking up frequent flyer points with it too ? You make it sound like a monthly event or something!

I will tell you, Im a panel beater, and we have been known to have cars sitting in storage for over 6 weeks, due to a build up of big hits (bad accidents). Most panel shops have panel beater who specialise in big hits (such as yours), and some who specialise in smaller cosmetic repairs (filler work). One person or two people can only do so much work. Generally speaking a big front end hit, will take a MINUMUM of 3 or so days to repair, and same again, or more to paint. And if you ring them to rush it, it means your repair will be rushed, and have less chance of a decent end result. Also, what Loxxr6 said. There is a huge range of things than can and will go wrong.
