Just wondering if anyone can give a definate answer as to what the ford employee discount amount in percentage terms is.
I am going to be working for Ford next year as a grad and was just wondering because the contract only says substantial discounts. Also a friend said there is no fixed amount, it all depends. If anyone knows can they post it, or if they think its not for the forum can they pm me? Thanks. |

On locally produced cars, its substantial. Varies though between a say Falcon/Territory and FPV.
Imported cars have lower discounts as there is less margin on them.

The discount rates are 22% of recomended retail price. That is only on Australian made models. This rate does not apply to FPV vehicles. FPV vehicles get a rate of about 10-11%.

Haha yeah buy them drive it out and sell it and make a profit. Though they most likely drop 30% when you drive them out the yard.

Probably not the best topic to be discussing on a public forum.

Why should it not be discussed on a public forum?
Holden Advertised "worker discount for everyone" earlier in the year. Just about every manufacturing workplace has some form of perk. My house is filled with useless plastic, tupperware, PVC pipe fititngs etc. |

I think you need to work for Ford for a year before you are entitled to a discount off new vehicles. Parts is a different matter. I don't think there is any hard and fast rule regarding discounts, different dealers have different policies and depends on what vehicle ie don't expect much discount off Focus Turbo due to demand. I think discount extends to family as well.

You have to keep them for 6 months tho i believe, therefore you cant sell them over night and make a big profit (not that you would today neways with the way cars are).
As for the 22% when you work it back with on roads etc its only about 15% better then what you will buy one for retail.

You are (employees) entitled to purchase 4 cars per 12 month period, but as LSTerritoryGhia notes, you gotta keep the car for a minimum of 6 months. So 4 family members can purchase cars, but they must keep them for 11 months minimum. Direct employees can change every 6 months....
But you gotta remember the Fringe Benefits of the employee...... :

You only have to declare fringe benifits on wagons and utes for some reason, sedans dont count. Never had to declare any of my XR8's but had to declare my Territory Ghia. Weird.

From this thread it appears that if you actually work for ford you can't sell the car for 6 months. If you get it through your mum, dad, brother, etc who work for ford or a ford partner you have to keep the car for 12 months. I think that is why people have differing views.

I work for a company that received a Ford Quality Excellence Award and the discounts on Australian manufactured products are quite substantial. 1 of the terms is that it has to be registered in the employees name for the first 6 months.
As for parts, there is no way these would be sold at cost. Even Ford employees would be paying a percentage on top of cost.

I forgot to add, the ~10% on my BA was when you factor in the whole onroad cost, etc.
That was a direct employee discount. Min 6 months to keep the car. Edit - I calculated wrong - it's around 15% |

I would have thought that asking Ford motor company yourself, since you will be working for them, would have been the best people to ask rather than a public forum.
