Default Digital Cameras/Software

I am interested in buying a digital camera to film and have been checking out units today, this one caught my eye.

http://www.sony.com.au/dis/catalog/p...egoryId=30727#

I am looking for something fairly versatile to film drags, cruises etc with and then want some reasonable software to play around with footage on computer.

Can anyone recommend a camera, I do like the idea of built in hard drives and also some decent, not too expensive software, for editing.

You might find this thread HERE a bit of help. It includes some discussion of the merits and otherwise of DVD and HDD cams as well as some other suggestions worth looking at.

In terms of software, I have tried nearly all of the available ones and ended up using the ULead range as the best compromise between features and ease of use. I've presently got the full Media 8 suite but the SE versions of Video Studio are included with Panasonic and some Sony cams.

Pinnacle Studio is also good for those who can get it to work but a quick look at some of the DV forums will tell you that ins't many people.

Power Director (and it's asscoiated bits) also has a good reputation but simply refused to run on my PC for reasons that no one could figure out.

Cheers
Russ

Thanks for that, had a good read, and now know a little of what to look for. The top of the range Sony with Hard Drive at the moment interests me the most!
