Ive been finding myself lately more and more drawn towards hot rod culture, the cars, the tattoo's, the artwork on cars and the music. Is anyone else involved in the scene? Does anyone have some links to share for Rods and Customs?

Im still waiting for them to bring out "The Sound of Music: Nazi's on Ice"

You'd probably want to put yourself down to attend the Kustom Nationals in Phillip Island from 6-8 Jan... I have been to previous meets and had a ball!

I was into it about 8-10 years ago. I lived in the US for a year and got hooked. I was doing my senior year but spent my weekends with 50yr old guys that had been hot rodding cars since the 60's. Used to love all the Ed Roth stuff, had heaps of his artwork everywhere.
Still dream about getting a 32 Ford Ratrod pick up with a flathead. Chopped, channeled, decked, nosed, and shaved. White tuck and roll interior. Painted either flat black primer with red and white pin stripes, or flat purple primer with white pin stripes. One day............ |

I used to have a pic of something like what I wanted.... If you've ever seen the Roy Desbrow Pick-up you'll have a better idea. But with my own personel touches.
Although your probably right. I was never able to accurately define hot rods and kustoms. |

Wife and I are currently discussing the feasability of a deuce coupe roadster convertible build starting hopefully in january 2008. If possible I'd like to buy one that is already 90% completed and just needs some finishing.

Gotta luv hot rods. As much as I like my restored cars I would just about do anything for a chop-top Mercury and a '47 Sloper or even a '32 windowless coupe. Its awesome to see the attention to detail these guys pay to their cars.
Dad and I have been discussing getting a rod after the drag ute and the Cortina are finished, only problem is he doesn't like sharing! Dave, you should get into Rat rods Oh and this is a site i stumbled across ages ago.... http://www.hot-rod.com.au/builder/index.html Its pretty much 'hot rodding for dummies' but interesting for those who aren't up with it.

Hot rods are loads of cash and once you start your hooked. I have a 37 chevy for custom work for a mate, at mates rates he will spend over 20k and not have it finished. 20k will give him engine, front suspension, disc brake rear diff conversions, auto. AC, dash and body mods, part painted and not much else and all the parts used are second hand cheapies, think of what sort of engine you can build with that money. his final cost will be over 40k

My family are into all kinds of **** including rods. One uncle with a 34 Ford Tudor, another uncle with a 27 Dodge, a cousin with a 32 roadster, and a mate with a 34 Ford coupe. The coupe runs zoomies on the street!
Another cousin is set to bring another rod into the family soon. He's just finishing off his EH panel van first. That things wild. Runs on bags, with huge tubs, chopped roof, suicide doors, flip front, and 350 Chev. |

http://www.designedchassis.com/i have looked high and low on the web and mags and this would have to be the best priced start to hot rodding. i met the owner and went for a ride in his own bucket and it was amazing and he was a good bloke too .definately my next project.$25000 would probably do it if you did a lot of the work your self and have second hand motor and box.
