Talking new Phone : Nokia N73

Hey guys, i finally got my 1st Nseries phone yesterday afternoon, i got the new relased Nokia n73, this phone has got eveverything i could ever want in a phone, funny story how i got this phone 2, here is my story, for the last few weeks since i spoted this new phone i kept on asking optus how long til i can upgrade and get this phone and they said 3 - 6 monthes, then yesterday i had a look at 3 to see if they had the same phone which they did but cheaper plains i was just about to shift networks then optus call me once i left optus world, they presaided me to stay with them, since i've been with them for 5.5years, i told the guy from optus whats frustaes me which were

Network Coverage
Plain esp capped Plains Rates

and why i want to leave optus and all then he made some good deals, one was upgrading to a new phone and he would cover the charges and all, sound like optus don't want me to leave , anyway so i got the phone after a long phone call with the guy, got it on 79Cap , i got a new sim card aswell but can't but it til monday.

i was playing with this phone all day yesterdays, it got some amazing features, i amsolotly love the Camera espially the zoom 20X, its a complete different phone that i'm used too series 40 (6230i), aswell, i've made my mp3 ringtones aldeady now i've got 2gb sd memory currenly for the phone my music and data.

Most 3g seem slow to boot up.

As for the N70, there have been an issue with the telstra supplied one. All by themselves start wap sessions, though there is only about 1kb volume d/l teh session can be active for houras and hours, it usually occures late evening to early morning.
If you have a n70 check your log (sorry for the slight hijack)

Funny you should say that.

One time I logged off Live! (It's free anyway), but it kept connected until I checked the time later.

As owning alot of phones myself, alot of people with the new Nokia's have alot of problems. Got myself the Samsung V500 when it came out, still got it 2 years later in perfect condition, my bro just got the new one of mine (samsung V900 or something) and it is awesome, just plugs it into the computer, ringtone downloads, photo's, movies! Can't wait to upgrade mine early next year. But as a shameless plug, the Samsung's are awesomephones!!!!!!!

I've had a Nokia N70 for three months and it's been back for warranty repairs once already (broken power button). We recently got 3G coverage on the Sunshine Coast and it's been a small headache (Coverage dropping in and out in a 5km radius)

Yeah the n73 is a great phone, even better when you flash it with the media edition firmware. The 3 firmware is terrible and out of date, the optus is better but still 2 revisions out of date.

Alright this is quite long winded and the majority of it taken from whirlpool, however the process is as follows. (it also works with other n series phone, however the product code will be different)

You should be able to google for a product code or pm me and I can probably find one for you.

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN PERIL!

It may void the warranty, ensure you back up your phone first using pc suite and don't blame me if it breaks Its also good practice to back up your data to your memory card then remove the memory card when flashing, if you are petrified of losing your data then don't do this.

Nokia provides a software updater http://www.nokia.com.au/nokia/0,,96565,00.html unfortunately the updater detects the fact the phone is a particular tele brand i.e. 3, Optus etc and will only attempt to update it with their branded firmware which is normally out of date and has features removed. The way it detects this is based on the phones product code that is written to the rom on the phone. This however can be changed using a piece of software called NSU. see below.

1. Download Nemesis Service Suite http://www.b-phreaks.co.uk/software.htm and connect your phone via PC suite. Back up your phone using PC suite first remembering to copy everything to the memory card as well and to be safe sync with outlook to back up your contacts, the pc suite backup works very well though backing up wallpaper, apps, files, photos everything.

2. Install nemesis service suite using all the defaults.

3. Run nemesis and it will say disconnected from pc suite but it is still connected to the computer via USB cable ,on NSS click on scan for new devices (top right) then wait until it finds your details then click on phone info icon (top middle left) then click on scan button then click on read button and from there you can change the product code, the product code for the apac media edition is 0539349 then click on write to rewrite your new product code.

4. Its a good idea to note your original product code which you can change back to and reflash the firmware just in case a warranty issue arises and Nokia have a problem with you flashing your firmware. That way they wont be able to complain if the original firmware is back on.

5. Once the product code is changed then you can rerun the software updater and it will detect a new firmware available, flash the device (this will take a good 20-30 mins) in which time do not touch the phone, pc or even breathe.

6. Once you are done you can happily restore all your details from PC suite (contacts , calendar , themes etc)

The media edition provides a better music player, with much faster loading times all round.

Good luck.

Nice one there davocol! Might have to try that...

I had a 6230i as well and upgraded to an N73 about a month and a half ago.

Found the N73 to be a very good phone but you have to be patient with it sometimes. No-where near as quick as the 6230i with any function. Also the navigation key fell off mine (which I'm yet to go back to nokia to fix, will do that soon) but the phone still works without it and it does get memory problems running non-nokia apps (about one a fortnight with heavy game use).

But the screen is absolutely brilliant, media functions are excellent and best of all the in built speakers are second to none IMO.

Have fun!

Ive got the N73 as well. Had it a couple of months now, no real issues.

Ive got Scarface, Running on EMpty (The aussie movie) and some shows for my kids on it so they are entertained and kept quiet in the car. I use it as a portable DVD player.

The in-built camera and video recorder are one of the best Ive used.

I just got one. I want to get a stopwatch function on it (there was a Sony Erricson that had one built in – lap timers and everything).

Do I have to look for a Java or Sis application for it?
Has anyone tried this and how did it work?

Only downside is if you want to sync to outlook on a corporate network that does not allow for the pc suite software to be downloaded.

Key guard also is an add on application, and bluetooth sync to contacts on hands free sucks
