Had the car serviced today. These days I'm driving the car less and less, but still getting 6 monthly services per my contract with John McGrath Ford for my extended warranty. Had the air filter changed and new diff oil on advice from the dealership. All reports is that the car is in excellent condition. So it makes me pretty happy to know that the old XR is still in tip top shape. 82,000 on the clock now and still going well.
With the exception of the stering rack and the shock mounts, the car has not let me down. Been by far the best car I have ever owned. Only other major thing replaced were the rotors. But thems the brakes :nutsycuck : Standard replaceable item. Never really understood why people claimed the AU is the biggest failure to ever come out of ford. My car is still going strong and continues to remain reliable. Anyway, just wanted to share my useless peice of information :

Yes, I am right by the side of you on that one.
Why would they claim the AU to be fords failure. Au's a heavy duty, long lasting, smooth, I can go on forever but only word suits the car : Great. My personal guess for why the AU was seen as a failure, was its revolutionary design. I dont know any other car that looks like the AU, its really an outstanding car. |

Good stuff Bucky, myself having the XR8 first and now the T3 have had a great run of good reliable motoring !
The last 2 days had been driving a BAXR8 auto, curtousey car while the T3 was getting some tweaks, good comparo both being autos. The XR8 had 19's,lowered. For me it confirmed I made the right choice lets leave it at that.

And before we go on holidays I always have to top up the windscreen washer bottle. I hate the constant (annual) maintenance!

I leave all the techincal maintenance stuff upto the dealership when JC isn't around :hihi: . I have a good relationship with those guys and trust them with what ever the use on my car. Not sure exactly on the type of diff oil they are using. Assume it would be the standard stuff.
Auto is good. It does clunk a little, but apart fromt the 6speed auto, i've not had seen 1 auto that's silky smooth. Mine feels like it did when I bought it at 22,000. Only thing I could maybe fault with it is that when selecting reverse, it does feel like it takes a little to engage. But its always been like that. No noise.

I asked about the diff oil bacause Castrol make a diff oil specially for Falcon and Commodore LSD's which already has the Sturaco additive in it. 2 litres of the oil retails for close to a 100ml bottle of the additive alone.
