Hi
I purchased a 1978 Mk 2 escort rally pack last year and am currently sanding back for a restoration. Underneath a couple of layers of paint I have come across the original paint. It is a violet sort of colour. The paint code on the plate is E Y356 which when googled comes up as kwickasair violet. I sent all plate details to ford Australia who confirmed I have an original 2 litre Rally pack but they do not recognise this code as escort paint. They assume it must be two tone with 3 being upper and 56 being lower but they still have no paint codes for this. I know there is a couple of xb falcons painted this colour so can someone please give me any information on this colour, paint code and how this car was painted this colour when not an original escort colour. Any help would be appreciated. |

It looks like a fleet colour...Kwikasair is a frieght company.
Elsewhere on this site you can find all these codes..... http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11225420 On here you will find some trucks in your colour: http://www.aus-ford-uk.co.uk/html/co...e_colours.html Last edited by 39ClevoUte; 19-01-2015 at 10:58 PM. |

37Clevo is right as it is a fleet colour. Back in that era, you could get almost anything done at the factory if you knew the right people and the paint code on the plate would be correct. If you need the paint formulation we can get that for you.
Cheers Russ

Thanks for the info, I am trying to find more info on this car and if any others were painted this colour, mainly due to the colour not appealing to me but with some historical info would make it easier. Russ, would appreciate kwickasair paint formula. Thanks again

There were two XB GT's painted in this colour and a number of standard Falcon sedans that were in the Kwikasair fleet that I know of. The Escort is more than likely to have been a Kwikasair sponsored competition vehicle but you should be able to find tell tale signs if it has been thus used.
Colour formula is below. Cheers Russ

Thanks Russ, makes sense so will follow up the rally car aspect. I noticed with the paint formula the code is Y359 whereas mine is Y356. Is this just different coding.
Thanks Paul |
