Well looky there.... AMac reckons the GT will be renamed XR8 in the next model......
Now that will only leave: It is too expemsive It is not N/A It is too expensive There is no wagon It is too expensive It does not have LPG It is too expensive It is not the right colour It is too expensive Holden sell the SS for $29.95 Ford must compete It is too expansive New cars are a rip off why don't they put them out as fleet/rentals It is too expensive as the reason why the usual suspects won't buy one. |

On topic, crying shame to lose the GT and it will be interesting to see if they do resurrect the XR8 name and in what state. I was never a fan of the XR8 badge, much preferred the GS or GT (and I own an FG XR8). As a guess, the demographic for a new Falcon V8 would tend to be the older buyer who are long time Ford fans and would remember these older iconic badges, would be fitting for Ford to retire the mighty Falcon with these badges in my view. |

That is very ****! But not even slightly surprising. GT R-Spec now goes down in history as the best Falcon ever...

Ok, so they're going to kill the GT basically in name, and revive the XR8 and make it the GT in body and practice. Retarded decision is retarded.
Also Flappist you forgot the highly sought after RTV Fairlane option.

Of course this might be a bit of "burley" to attract potential "last GT ever I will make a fortune as a collector" buyers...... AMac used to be FPV's minister for truth...... |

Could this be to make room for the hi-po Mustangs?

R Spec owners will be the winners out of this. They will eventually be the most collectible Falcon ever one would expect.

If racing heritage is the primary concern then the GTHO Phase 3 is LONG way from the top.
It won at Bathurst ONCE. XA won twice and Cortina GT won 3 times. Not to mention the multiple wins by the red team. Of course only a few really care about the Cortina GT as compared to the later XY Falcon it was quite slow, possibly even slower than a 6 cylinder Falcon. Rather like the FG XT vs Phase 3 time trial on Top Gear really. What is collectible and valuable in the future will be determined by the future as the people of that time look back. |

Would be interesting to survey high school kids and see what cars they aspire to own.

The people with the money in the next 10 - 40 years won't give two hoots about Bathurst or any racing pedigree. I love Phase 3s but I've never been one to watch cars go around a track - I love driving. Still love Phase 3s, XAs, XBs. But definitely not because they went around a track. Those days are gone. Welcome to the new world.

The final XR8 should also go down as a future collectable being the only XR8 to come factory supercharged. Might have to go down and talk to my local.

The best guesses I've seen still point to F6 dropped with potentially an XR6T310 model, GS dropped for XR8 and GT to remain with a few option packs replacing GTP etc.
...And a Twin turbo V8 Mustang in the pipeline |
